should there be a cover in the left front lower corner?

Having the vehicle for more than 3 months now and just discovered there's no cover in the left front lower corner (indicated by the arrow). The other corner has a cover though. I looked through the one without the cover and could see some kind of filter was inside. I wonder if that's why it is not covered.

From the picture I took delivery of the vehicle in the dealership, I can see the cover was not there.

However when I checked the BMW official site, it looks like both sides should have a cover.

Can any owner in here confirm or verify this when you have a chance ? Thanks in advance.

Garage List
Based on all the user photos and review videos I’ve seen, there should definitely be a cover there.

Thanks for the quick response. I hope the US spec is the same as your European's. Let's see..

I think on the US spec 28i that part isn't there maybe for a reason, potentially cooling of some sort. It's there on other models but a few 28i X-line videos also show it not being present again for one reason or another.

there isn't a cover there for the US/Canada X1 xDrive28i. It allows airflow to some kind of cooling fins for something back there? (first pic)

on M Sport bumper like mine, the open black grille on the bottom allow air to flow to the same area.(second pic)

It is one of the reasons (the air flow gap) for the low drag coefficient of the U11 X1.

Yeah the X1 in X-line as an EV iX1 is a super slippery car for an SUV a very low Co-efficient of drag compared to many rivals.

The other models are still good but I think that one with the closed grill and other solutions like the aero wheels have really helped the car.

closed grille doesn't do much for those of us in warm climates in the US.... I noticed that the grilles were opened almost all the time. not that I'm surprised, since the temperatures have been around 90 degrees(32 or 33 Celcius) my X1 has not been tinted yet because the tint shop doesn't have an available appointment until end of the month... my left arm now has a nice tan, while my right arm remains rather pale. the sun is brutal...

The iX1 has a permanently closed grill and no gaps which is better for efficiency, others don't have that and as you mention when it opens and closes it reduces the overall efficiency of the car by one degree or another.

Thanks guys. It's something I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't do the dip mode.

I wish BMW would have made the vehicle looks more symmetrical by either no covers at all or used honeycomb covers for both sides to keep the air flow.

Anyway, It's good to confirm I am not missing a cover. Thanks again.
