what is the trick to using a wired connection for music?

hi, I got my 2024 X1 yesterday and I immediately noticed that the car does not acknowledge any auxiliary cable to play music on my iPhone. I have to have it playing via Bluetooth which I hate bc I can only go previous and next, and can't see the whole playlist without touching the phone itself.
I had it connected to CarPlay but noticed it was disconnecting every 10 seconds.
what is the trick to having a wired connection to play music in the car? I tried my Apple wire and it did not come up at all. do I have to use the BMW lightning cable?

I’m not sure there is a wired connection option. However you should make sure you do all the software updates. When I got mine x1 in March I was having tons of CarPlay issues. Now I don’t have any at all. Done 3 upgrades I think.

Those are used to update the BMW navi maps and can be used to play music from a memory stick and record footage from the drive recorder, as well as charging.

Are you sure it can be used to update maps?
Our iX1 does not have this functionality it seems.

Tried via MyBMW to find the page where this manual map update feature was found, and it just said that our iX1 does not support this feature.

On idrive 8 this is how I update the maps via the download manager, I think with idrive 9 the map updates might come OTA.

We get the local area i.e UK and Ireland OTA but the European Union has to be downloaded via the Download Manager as it’s usually about 33gb.

are you using an authentic cable for your iPod? I tried using my cable from Apple and the iPod did not show up under media.
