Q. Active grill / shutters

I can't find any info regarding active grill / shutters on the X1 (assuming it has them).

Is it the same on all models, or does it vary from say ICE / PHEV / BEV?

And what does it do and when?

Any info appreciated.

Thanks.

The US 2.8 has them and they are great. Engine heats up very fast on cold days and stays warm longer I think when returning to the car a few hours later.

Gets great mileage too. If your careful you can get around 34 mpg with 4 snow tires. I only had the stock tires on fire a few hundred miles but was getting 36 on a brand new car. They seem to stay closed in cold weather. Haven't seen them opened yet this winter

No active grille/shutters on the iX1 (i.e the BEV). Just a solid plastic cover, as it doesn't require the airflow and does require blanking off to reduce drag

Active air flap control systems for the kidney grille and lower intake adapt open and close according to the need for cooling air and the ambient temperatures, and when closed, also enables faster warm-up of the engine after a cold start and extended storage of heat when the engine is switched off.

Helps the car heat up faster and reduce drag to make the car more efficient and lower C02 and fuel usage in short.

So that’s why the grille opens and closes on my Mrs 1 series.

Always wondered why.

Thanks for the reply.
