replace battery warning
Hi all,
Noticed this over the weekend, picked up the car this weekend from the shop and noticed a “replace battery” warning. Tint shop admitted to leaving car on accessory for a couple of hours but doesn’t explain how the battery could be at a “replace” warning after a couple of hours? I was hoping driving it around might recharge it some how but nope. Anyone else have this issue? I read in a post that I searched for that someone had the exact same result as me after getting ppf done Going to dealer service on Wednesday to find out, also there’s a slight rattle in the rear that I also read about on a separate post. |

No telling what the state of the battery charge was when you picked up the car. Charge the battery with a trickle charger and see if the battery warning goes away. Always use a trickle charger if the car is going to sit for more than a week or two.

I'll see what the dealer says, but the car is less than 2 weeks old, and really was only driven for 1 week (left at tint shop for a week)
So i am not really sure how this could put the battery in an already drained state? |

Whatever you do, DON'T tell the dealer the tint guy left the ignition on...just tell them about the message. Period.

they knew that info when I brought my X1 in. fortunately, the battery did not replacing. they simply took it out and charged it using a huge battery charger in the service dept. the battery ran fine for the last 4 months. the BMW service tech was able to determine the amount of time it was left on by plugging the car into the terminal. they were also able to see data such as how long the engine was idling without the car moving.. .which seems like an invasion of privacy to me of course, I'm the last person to care about my privacy. my X1 and other cars are tracked 24/7. every member of my family can see where each car is at any given moment with the tracker's app. |

pretty sure I got a similar message during the first couple weeks after delivery. a hard reset got rid of all those bugs... haven't really seen any in over 4 or 5 months. perhaps you should wait before popping into the service dept? (unless it's a major message about an urgent issue) I've also seen the yellow engine icon light come on... but it also went away and never returned again: https://u11.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2022127 https://u11.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2029518 Last edited by SpaceSilverX1; 11-07-2023 at 08:35 PM.. |

the CEL however was apparently the VANOS solenoid was faulty and that the part was "cleaned up" and now the car is in running condition. He said he ordered a new part just in case this happens again, theyll just swap them out. It was pretty nice they sent a video of the recap of the work, with my car and the hood popped up. He also said there's a fault on iDrive 9 that needs an update to stop the bad connectivity of CarPlay. He said they updated and it's fixed now. They're doing their test drive tomorrow to check it out, and to find the source of the rattle. So far the customer service experience has been great from this dealer. |

Just to close this out,
Turns out there was a dead battery cell, and that triggered the warning, but because all the monitoring systems are dependent on the battery now it was affecting the VANOS valve control solenoids, which need to be replaced along with the battery. My tech was a pretty straight forward and genuinely nice guy, he said that the X1's are all having major battery issues/warranty work, who really knows though. |

Battery Replace
Bought my X1 in NY and next day had it transported to South Carolina and when the car was delivered, this light was on. They had the car for five days and the knucklehead must have left something on while it was on the trailer. Do I really need anew battery? Light is on but car is running fine. Little aggravating I need a dealer trip for this but hopefully nothing out of pocket as car has 100 miles on it.

In mid-January, I purchased an X1 M35i on a Friday. However, I noticed that there was a "replace battery" warning. The battery was replaced the following Monday, but unfortunately, the very next day, the battery was drained. The dealership kept the car for three days to run tests, and someone from BMW support inspected the X1 and approved the work that was done. The X1 has been working fine since then.

The cars sit at the dock waiting for a vessel assignment for a long time and they did not account for this oversight from a manufacturing perspective. Hence the “deep sleep” mode available. Sorry to hear you’re another victim to the battery drainage but I too was one, the dealers usually don’t contest this sort of thing. They get typically are able to get goodwill reimbursement from corporate in these types of scenarios. |

If your battery is low a real charger is what's needed. 6 to 10 amps. I'd thought the warmer weather changed the resting battery voltage to a more acceptable range. But lately, Even after longish drives of 40 minutes it seems to settle back to 12.2 volts. Not good
