What will you change/add in your X1

Hi All,

I am starting a thread based on my experience so far with the X1 30e (its not particularly for it) and i want to see if anyone else is thinking on ehnancing their X1.

I will focus on what i am not a fan of and will be changed in time.

1 - too much plastic at the back doors .I understand its UKL but putting some sensatec on the back doors upper part is like cheap thing.I will definatelly cover these like the front doots.

2 - sunblinds - pure plastic - totallly stupid - these will be covered in synthetic leather for sure - big dislike

3 - inside pockets of the doors - adding some padding like 5 series - a bit more sound insulating agains things rattling inside them

4 - B pillers - probably will cover them with the matterial like the A columns like in X3

5 - inside of fenders - not the same "carpet" like in other models X3 for example - will add some insulation there to reduce noise from tyres and i am sure it will improove alot the experience.Having said that - the car at hight speeds is really quiet but the tyre noise can be reduced (its not hight but still will add some more comfort) and thats definatelly because of the budget cut for the fenders.

6 - why the hell they added driver side mirror dimming but not for the passenger - i cant change that but its a shame..

Slightly less wider arm rest door bolsters.

Windshield wiper positioned to driver side more. ATM there's a 3-4 inch gap that stays dirty from the end of the windshield towards what is being cleaned.

1-2 inches more space between the back of the front seats to rear seats would be nice.

Quiet AC. Not sure if it's the actual fan or the design of the vents that is causing all the noise.

Michelin tires for everyone. Tire noise is very loud. Can't recall what brand I have.

Other than these minor gripes, love the x1 and wouldn't want anything else.

Well just ordered ours (space silver metallic) last week so until see it gonna have to live with it. BUT things DO NOT like even before getting it ---> auto start/stop --- rear wiper needs to be relocated under spoiler --- center console make use of space under by making the pathetic / small shallow (with lid) storage deeper. Plan to keep the 2023 X1 3 years until the new redesign X3 comes out.

Based on Test drive these were I thought to change the most.
1. Definitely will redesign centre console storage. I find it not very useful.
2. Add a button to disable stop/start permenantley.

If you are complaining about the car before it's even built, I'd seriously consider canceling your order....

For the heated seats its not needed from a perspective if not 70% cold weather.
We have almost 4 seasons here and i use it in the winter so having it on the screen is okay..for the wheel - they could have done it like other series on the wheel itself

Ok, then don't order your car with heated seats if you don't need them ..... I use them 4-5 months out of the year. And the best way to use them is to have them heat to very high to warm up quickly, then turn them down after 3-5 mins. So a physical button is definitely better.

Things I would change/add after owning the car for a couple months:

1) Ditch the wireless charger. My drives are rarely more than an hour, in which I get maybe 5-7% charge while using CarPlay. Using the official MagSafe Charger I get 50% in 30 minutes. Would prefer to have that space be used for hard buttons or a cubby for small items since the armrest storage is next to useless.

2) Have a traditional enclosed center console storage. With the raised bolsters of the sport seats and my seating position, it makes accessing the storage under the armrest troublesome.

3) I miss the 12v socket under the glove box that I had in my e90, e92, and f32. It was really convenient to tuck away wires for chargers and such out of sight.

4) The option or inclusion of convex side mirrors would go a long way for improving visibility.

5) I probably wouldn't get the gloss black trim again now that I know what the other trim choices look like in person. It's a fingerprint magnet, especially because I have oily skin.

That being said, I love the car and am very happy with it and have no regrets! This is more of a list of things BMW could improve or things I might have done differently had I not ordered the car sight unseen.

I live in 100% warm weather and would still appreciate heated seats, and physical buttons would be welcome. I'm fine with the touch screen but there are some things that are easier with physical buttons.

I liked heated seats with my previous cars and used them occasionally after a long day of work to soothe my aching back, it made the drive home much more comfortable, especially with the A/C on at the same time. Not the traditional intention for heated seats, but a good reason to have them if needed.

Isn't it possible to wrap or coat the gloss black interior trim?

I think BMW could easily compromise and add 2 seat icons to the thin climate strip that is always present on the bottom of the display. Then just tap the icon to cycle through the various heating stages without having to dive into the actual climate control menu. Same thing for the heated steering wheel. Granted, they are not physical buttons but I bet the functionality could be easily programmed into iDrive to have permanent software buttons.

Probably, but I bet the ambient light strips are mounted directly to the trim pieces and I知 not sure how hard it would be to separate them, if at all. If I知 feeling brave one day I値l try to take it off and see.

Yeah as you said I was confused on whether to go for gloss black or other ones. But for me I liked gloss black better as it looks better than aluminium trims. Thought I could add some coating to the gloss black.
