And I mean really overheat. Hotter than the inside of a Mcdonalds apple pie.

I am quite impressed with X1 design and implementation by comparison!

The post about using the antennae is interesting to know too.
I like the design - just not the actual function.

I also have had a similar outcome of a non-charging wireless charge area. I just tried it for the 4th time on an hour trip. When I started the trip out I was at 95%. I turned the WiFi & Bluetooth on when I started out. 55 minutes later when I got to my destination my 2-1/2 year old iPhone 12 measured just 70% & phone was hot to the touch. Note: I kept my Otter Defender case on.

On my way back the phone started off at 60%. I turned on the same 2 features, WiFi & Bluetooth, using a USB C cable plugged into one of the two rear ports. About 50 minutes later it was at 100 percent. Phone was cool to the touch.

I’m seriously thinking of turning off the wireless charging area & just using it for storage.

Your phone case likely played a small part in the phone heating up and charging at a lower speed. Wireless charging works by magnetic induction coils, the more space between the receiver in the phone and the charger surface, the more inefficient it becomes, resulting in heat production and reduced charging. When it comes to wireless charging, the thinner the case the better.

That being said, I'm sure the BMW charger is a generic "one size fits all" wireless charger that doesn't work well for any one specific phone, and just kind of is there just so BMW can say they have one in the car as a "premium" feature.

I tried using mine the first week and got a MagSafe mount instead.

It works fine with my pixel 8 pro (idrive 9 with 11/2023.52 - xdrive30e).

I must say though that I rarely use Waze or Google maps and I play music from my USB stick or Spotify.

The phone charges quite fast in fact.

I’m sure having a thicker case, such as OTTER BRAND, has a negative effect on charging it quicker. For my new cell phone update perhaps I’ll look into a case that protects as well as allow for quicker wireless charging. But for now the USB c cable works very well.

Had the same issue with mine until i removed the case, my car has those little holes and breathes cool air onto my phone while its in the cradle.

Obs with the case on the ac couldnt cool my phone properly, but once i took it off my phone went from burning (case on) to lukewarm (case off). I noticed that on a 1h 40min trip my battery went from 18-66% whereas it fell 10ish% with the case on.

Maybe give this a try. PS using the unbreakable 11 pro max (i dropped off a cruise ship and it did not even crack, fell like 6m onto wood)
