Do you consider pickleball a sport?

Do you? Seems to be a contentious issue

It's for people that cannot play tennis properly. So no.

I'm expecting pickleball to be added as an Olympic sport in time for LA28.

I actually love ping-pong. Learned when I was a kid from these Korean fellows who played at a park we used to go to on Sundays for a picnic. Got really good at it. Have a table at home and still play when friends or neighbors come over. I usually win; no brag, just fact.

Never played pickleball. Heard seniors are cracking limbs left and right playing it.

"Pickleball-related fractures have increased 90-fold over the past 20 years, and more than 87 percent of those who sustained a fracture were age 60 or older, according to a new study presented this week at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons." Feb 15, 2024

Wouldn't be surprised if the number of folks playing pickleball has increased 90-fold in 20 years.

Another reason to regularly lift weights at a “gym” = bone density, ligament strength and muscle maturity…

You could certainly argue it is much more of a sport than someone sitting on their ass driving a racecar

Don't really care as long as people are out doing something physical instead of doing nothing. Only thing is it seems people are getting up in arms about the pickle ball craze from tennis players competing for court time where there are no dedicated pickle ball courts to residents near courts complaining about the noise at all times of the day.

You think motorsports is just sitting on your ass then I'd be very interested in your opinion of poker (yes, the card game) being televised on TSN.

I think the problem is the pickleball players think they are playing a real sport or doing something athletic when they are standing stationary or moving a couple of feet at a time. There is a reason why all the washed up tennis pro's like Jack Sock are dominating PB.

Back to your point - they are taking up valuable tennis courts just because every middle aged Karen thinks they're doing something.

I've read what F1 drivers do to create and maintain necessary fitness for their sport (and, elsewhere, what NASCAR and IMSA drivers do, too), and I agree: pickleball players are among the most fit athletes in the world. This has been made clear time and again.

Here, this is one example of F1 drivers' fitness routines, and if that's all they're doing, it demonstrates why pickleball players are certainly among the top athletes in the world: https://www.redbull.com/us-en/formul...-fitness-plans.

This is what has convinced me that it's a lock that pickleball will be an Olympic sport at LA28. Wait for it, sports fans.

Grew up playing tennis. Have recently gotten into pickleball. It’s a great workout and certainly as much a sport as tennis. Tennis players are good at pickleball because the motions and strategies translate.

Google defines sports as "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."

So it's technically a sport, so is ping pong, so is competitive eating and probably prancercising... as long as you're prancercising against someone else.

Pickleball...what an interesting name for a sport.

I know many girls, and some guys, that play with pickleballs. Apparently, 300 calories per hour, but many don't last that long.

No, it is not as much as a sport as tennis. That is ridiculous.

The point is there are different levels of sports...this qualifies as a lower level like Golf, Ping Pong.

A sport, to me, is not 85 year old women playing at their local country club everyday. Which is what Pickleball is
