M Sport Seats - terrible? do you like them?

Just saw a video from Swede365 talking about the M Sport seats (video below). I’ve been watching his videos and they’re great, so him describing the seat comfort as terrible is a bit worrying.

What do you think of them?

Love the Sport Seats; and I loved them in my F30 too.

I love the sport seats in my X1, very comfortable and supportive and plenty of adjustment, plus the variable lumber support and massage function are a great bonus; however, mine is not an M sport spec. model, so I'm not sure if the sport seats fitted in my car are the same style as an M spec. car.

If you didn’t opt for the M Sport package, but chose the sports seats option, then you would get the same seats as we get in the M Sport package.

Seats are very person dependent! They ate not one size fits all so should be tested first.

Sport Seats are the same across the board; M Sport Pkg just comes with them standard.

But lumbar support in the active seats is an additional option in the US, which wasn't available when I ordered my car last summer.

I think the lumbar support was only introduced early this year.

The seats are great, we loved them on the test drive, ignore it.

Just eat more and add some “cushion” to your own seat…. Solved!

I'm reasonably tall(188cm) and skinny guy. (skinny = my ideal body weight + 52 holiday weight from last November/December)

When I drove the new X1 for the first time, the dealer's X1 was a X-Line with Sport Seat option. I was very comfortable in the sport seat. The salesman was quite surprised.

My X1 with M Sport package came with Sport Seats and Alcantara seating surface. After one month, I still love the sport seat. It holds me very well and yet offer plenty of comfort for me. In addition, I have the Active Seats with Lumbar Support and Seat Massaging function.

During a long drive last week, I was really comfortable. In fact, when I was taking a break at a random NJ Tpke rest area, I fell asleep for two hours. When I woke up, I was very surprised that I had such a nice nap. The sport seat felt like it was cradling me.

The Alcatara seating surface prevents me and the passengers from sliding around when I take corners in a more sporty way.

The sport seat's leg extension(or whatever it's called) also allow my long legs a lot of very comfortable support during long drives.

So, yes, I love the sport seats! (make sure that you add Active Seat option to them, if available in your country)

Having said that, there is one downside to the sport seats. Getting in and out of the car requires a little more effort because the seat cushion bolsters are taller.

Thanks! This helps a lot

In all the test drives with the X1 they only had X-line with the regular comfort seats, so unfortunately I never had the chance to try the sports seats.

I ordered mine with M-Sport package (and seats) with active seat option by the end of the month I can hopefully upload photos

I'm 182cm tall and 87kg (tall and lanky), and the M Sport seats fit me comfortably. I don't have the active seats or lumbar support since my car was built before it was available. Doesn't bother me too much that I don't have them, but on longer drives they'd probably benefit from the active seats to reduce fatigue. I went with the sensatec because I have a dog, so cleanup would be easier. It did take me a few days to find the best seat position though, but I'm not used to driving SUV's and sitting more upright.

I'm 6', 200lbs, and love them. They're better than my E90 M3's. The side bolsters lock you in well and there's plenty of cushion for comfort.

Joked with the wife I'm swapping our seats.

I agree that you have a concern and taking a poll may give some insight for your key sitting requirements and gives a better sense what owners can comment for ideas where to concentrate on. For me, I have an x-line pkg with the sport seat option. The seat cradles me more than any other non-luxury vehicle I ever drove. The manual horizontal leg extension is nice and believe it’s quite functional to improve longer journeys. I do weigh about 210lbs (95kg) and 5’7” (1.7m) and the thigh bolsters do not pinch or constrict blood circulation to my legs like video. In every vehicle I owned, my natural seating posture tends to be upright so my head doesn’t touch the head rests like the frustrations from the video. What does bother me after an hour driving is my tailbone (lower back) starts to ache and I tend to readjust to relieve pressure points. Though the video says, the x1 sport seats is the worst he has ever owned is equivalent to me saying my ‘15 Toyota Sienna LE minivan is the worst I have owned with painful results. 100% agree people need to test drive and hopefully can get long term seat time because people with underlying back problems and issues may make a very bad purchase decision that’s a show stopper and these vehicles aren’t exactly cheap. Good luck.

As everyone has mentioned, seats are good for most part. I think if someone is on the heavier side in the thigh/hip area and drives with a wider stance, you may feel the pinch on side of thighs on longer drives. I'm 6'2"+ and 220lbs. I feel the pain on a drive >1 hr. Not a big discomfort but discomfort nonetheless. I don't feel bad though as seats hold you really well on tight corners and in general is good. Lumbar sport could have been better but thigh bolsters are a bit tight at my size & stance.

I got the sports seats, but I did not get lumbar. I kind of regret it now. But the seats are very comfortable.

Hi,

I have a question about the seat knee support.

I ordered the following in my optional equipment
455 active seats for driver and front passenger
459 Electric seat adjustment with memory for driver's seat
494 Seat heating for driver and front passenger

but I didn't order a sports seat.

Does knee support only come with sports seats?

I wonder if my car will have knee support or not?

I have the active seats and can confirm that they do not have thigh support. Wish they did as I miss it.
