The regional definition of a heat wave for NYC is three days in a row of 90+F highs. I love watching the TV talking heads spouting climate change in every news story, but none of them will point out that NYC has not had one official heat wave in 2023 so far.....

Since we don't have anybody from Arizona or Palm Springs or Death Valley posting, now I'm feeling put-upon by Mother Nature. And to think not long ago I was bragging about having the best weather in the USA. Never mind that.

hubbahubba’s from Arizona. Maybe he’ll see this and tell us about his weather, although I’m sure it’s hot. ☀️

It’s a little toasty. High today on my patio was 112. Right now, 5:55pm local time it’s 101. There have been big clouds threatening for a while now, but the big poofs aren’t producing. Cooling down for the weekend!

It was the same in Southern New Hampshire when we moved there from the tropics. In 1998 our local channel's weather reporter, Mike Haddad, said "another heat wave" all summer long. And the next year. And the next year...until the summer of 2003.

It was hotter and more humid there than it had been in Singapore. Not by a lot, but 3-5 degrees hotter makes a difference when you're starting from 90 F and are doing things out in the yard.

That period's New England weather came as a real surprise. In 2004, the jet stream moved south of us in the summer and pretty much stayed there until we moved to SW Ohio in 2017. That change in the jet stream delivered somewhat cooler and much drier air; locals called it "Canadian air".

Oh, I'm with you on that. Cool 60s and 70s during the day. Maybe dip in to the 50s. Ah, yeah!

He wins a pony!

it's too hot there for a pony, so this will have to suffice.

Having just complained about the heat wave, I have to say that I love the summers here: 80s in the day and nice cool nights. And we've had some of that this summer. We generally don't get more than a couple of 100 degree days, but this year has been a little warmer than usual. Anyway, absent the crazy weather this year, summer is my favorite season.

Our forecast here is for mid-70's F highs and mid-50's lows on Friday and Saturday. Not complaining for mid-August!

On the west coast, southern California may be seeing their first landfalling tropical storm in eighty-something years if TS Hillary's forecast tracks prove out. Maybe we should start an umbrella drive for UncleWede?????

Snips and snails and puppydog tails don't melt when getting wet. That's left for sugar and spice and everything nice.

What, which thread am I in?

And where are my pants??????

Yep, current forecast says we might get 2.5 (or more) inches of rain. Going to prepare; setting up the pump tomorrow to pump out the back patio, if necessary.
