has facebook ever ruined a close relationship of yours?
I just thought of this topic in posting on another thread. It ended a close friendship that I had for maybe 11 years?
In a way, it's quite odd, right? Meaning, shouldn't you be able to talk anything out, when you are close and have been for a decade? I think what happens imho is that a facebook comment is there for all to see, and permanent, and so a person can take it very personally, never say anything, but stew over it. Objectively speaking, if a friendship ends over facebook, it was never real to begin with, no matter how long it was since it began...my .02 |

No, this is one reason I don't have facebook.. That shit is bascially just one giant intel gathering service.. Everyone who's on your page knows your business. It's hilarious how people bitched about NSA spying but they are more than happy to air all the shit out on the internet, without anyone even asking.

Nope. I have a Facebook but I use it mostly to see what friends and family are doing back home in Detroit, and a few friends that have moved to other states. I don't post really unless it's a day of golfing or going somewhere new/mini trips. That way the family can see what I'm too and see that I'm still alive and not dead under a semi-truck.

No, because if you put personal shit on social media you're retarded and I'm not retarded. Don't feel the need to share my opinions with a large group of people that I barely know and probably would never want to spend any actual time with in real life.
I use it to coordinate events, share photos and crack jokes. Care to share some more deets OP? |

At minimum, I would think the hundreds of people who report to you would think you're a ****. And, obviously, they would be jealous of your ability to throw away a M4 and get a 911. It's not what would motivate them, I mean some of those losers are probably driving 2012 335is and junk like that. Oh, on the details, here's how stupid. My cousin posted an article about students having their loans forgiven, and that they should not be forgiven, and that the parents should be on the hook for them. I said nobody should ever cosign anything, for anyone, not even a child, let alone a brother/sister/parent, etc. There is no purpose to the cosigning as it could destroy more than 1 person if there is a default. My friend, who had a son going into college, took exception. that's it, seriously. Oh, and her parting shot was that someday, I may know how difficult it really is (as if I'm not in the real world) when my son turns 18 (he's 31 mos. now). |

This type of stuff caused my cousin's marriage to end. Some pretty blonde girl kept making comments every time he posted, his wife said it needs to stop and you need to apologize, he said apologize for what, I'm not going to apologize....I don't make any judgement, but even I was wondering, who is she???

Ha-Ha funny story about FB and "relationships" around it.
Flashback to high school days, late 70s/early 80s. Hottest chick in school, or almost. Always had 1 single boyfriend, same guy, all 4 years. Left hundreds of us chomping at air. (She was also super-duper cool, friendly, had a connection with every single clique - she was THE BOMB.) Flash up to 2009. Her husband had passed on, sadly, three years earlier. Me single again. Friended me on FB, we both made some moves, found she was open to it. Although we lived 3 states apart, ended up spending a fun weekend together at a resort - good times. "Want to be FWB," moving forward, she said. Then in a couple of months, she changed her mind and accused me of "kiss and telling" which I absolutely did not do. I think it was just her way to get out of the little thing we had started. Now she has me FB blocked and is not in contact at all. So, in summary, FB got me some action, then got me dropped & blocked. Giveth and Taketh. My advice - be VERY careful with relationships started on or involving FB. Been there, done that. Anyway, I'm friends with the HS girl you mention, let's just say her husband is equal to her in looks, so they cranked out ridiculous kids (I think this should be required by law so our overall society benefits!). You know the types, triathletes Kona, ice hockey coach, all 3 kids (2 girls 1 boy) played ice hockey. But later in life, that's what we have in common, ice hockey....when she wished me a happy birthday, you woulda thought I made $50k on a stock trade I was so happy lol |

I refuse to go on my Facebook because it's just an endless feed of moronic, poorly or not at all thought out political opinions that have no basis in reality. That, or 40 photos of your kid/cat/dildo where it would take Sherlock Holmes to figure out how each one differs from the last.

No social media period!!! People call me old man and I don't give a shit, I'm 33. The only exception for social media is to keep in touch with family and friends, not air out your dirty laundry or brag to the world about how good your life is on the pages of the computer so their insecure asses get their thumbs up or likes which makes them feel good about themselves; when in reality, their life is a struggle like everyone else.

I only have 15 "friends" on FB and except for Wifey and few others, they are all unfollowed. Some I ignore because I'm sick of reading political crap, and some post nothing but pics of their kids. Politics and baby pics are two things I don't want to see. I only use mine to post my pictures for others to see. And to follow Bloom County, of course.
