I have created a shortcut function in my X1 for the auto start/stop through the main screen. Basically, once I start the vehicle I swipe down and can quickly access the feature to turn it off and then back out to Waze/Spotify and get moving. Although an ass pain to not have a button anymore it has become second nature.

No, you aren't using voice command for the "shortcut"; you are using it for the command itself. Yes--you can tell the car to turn off stop/start, but the one time I did it, it took me like 5 times to get the system to understand the command.

Can anyone please share instructions on how to turn off auto stop-start from the X1 on-board computer at the start of a journey? EU specification model (GB).

Without mild hybrid technology: via iDrive 1. "MENU" 2. "Vehicle apps" 3. "Driving settings" 4. "Drivetrain and chassis" 5. "Auto Start/Stop" 6. Select the desired setting. If you have an X1 with mild hybrid technology (xDrive23i does indeed have MHT) then it would seem that you are out of luck.

You can create a shortcut for it by long pressing the deactivate button on the screen, then it will appear in the menu anytime by swiping down. Still takes about 3 steps though. Swipe down, hit the preset, hit deactivate.

Correct me if I'm wrong; Auto Stop/Start functionality and the ability to disable it (Don't think the UK/EU even has the option to turn it off) isn't the car manufacturers initiative. It is an enforced directive from our elected Governments. Discuss!

Once the vehicle is in the hands of the buyer, as long as it passes emissions/safety inspections (at least here in the US), the buyer can modify their vehicle.

When I ordered my X1 (2 weeks ago) with M Sport pkg (one big reason) the auto/start/stop will be off in select ---> Sport Mode even though have to be selected very time started up. Until some permanent off for A/S/S this is the way we'll drive it. Expected delivery July.

can the engine be tricked into not shutting off by applying the brakes as lightly and slowly as possible?
on my previous Toyota, that was how I did it. I come to a stop at the red light slowly with as little brake pressure as possible and never depress it fully. holding it there with just enough pressure so the car didn't move. the engine would continue to idle. |

oh look another I’d like to use more fuel for no reason thread, future generations are going to be so so proud of you. Anyone that’s says that it doesn’t save fuel is clueless, is it in some models a bit of a pain sometimes maybe.
But the number of threads that go over and over the same thing is mental. Honestly can a mod create this or one of the 50 other threads a sticky. |

The problem with the X1 is the implementation of the auto start/stop is not that good; it is too aggressive, cuts off too early and hesitates too long to restart again - the latter is quite disconcerting when you want to make a quick getaway from a junction on a busy road. |

The moan and the need to have it off seems to be apparent even without issues and really struggle with that short sighted mentality. For me if it saves me a bit of money then great. Having the engine running stopped in traffic for no reason just seems silly in this day and age. The US market without MHT has bigger issues than the EU which is a shame. |

The US market generally doesn’t bother as much about fuel economy nor does legislation thus why you don’t get it. With it most issues would be mitigated I suspect. |
