Trim removal for hardwiring radar?

I've done radar detector/dashcam hardwire installations on multiple vehicles so that's not the question. Does someone have a link for the trim removal for the mirror and A pillar? Seems like someone has probably documented this but a quick YT search didn't find anything specific to the U11.

I've got a mirror tap that I may use, thus the mirror trim removal. I don't want to just start pushing/pulling and possibly break a mounting tab. Especially since it's my wife's car.

Same goes for the A-pillar removal. I'd guess it's like most new cars with airbags in the pillar and it just pulls off until the retaining clip catches.

Thanks. I'd seen that thread along with the related links but it doesn't seem to cover any of the U11 trim removal process.

If it was my car I'd just go at it and figure it out. Since it belongs to my wife that's not a doable plan of attack.

Have a look at this for mirror trim removal, it’s the same mirror as in the X1

OK. This one was a bit more helpful. Still managed to break one of the front clips as they are very, very thin. Replacement part is only $25 but have to order it (p/n 51-16-5-A81-E30) and the parts guy said there was no delivery time frame. I'll try some plastic epoxy for the time being.

If I want to use a mirror tap it looks like most of the usable connectors are actually in the overhead console. Need to find out which side to pull on first to lower it as that will definitely be more costly.

Here's the DIY video that works for the X1. The hardest part is getting the lower 2 pieces off as the clips hold really tight. I needed to use a pair of trim removal tools wedged into place to get enough force to release the clips.

I confirmed it's all working with the current detector so now just need for the new one to show up so she has it for the cross country trip.
