Exactly the same issue with Id9, so frustrating when i have used the my Samsung phone on several other manufactures vehicles. Tried all the suggestions such as unsparing, latest software versions etc etc. Ironically it has worked once and while it did for a week or so the reversing camera features stopped working.

Quick update on my car... as it is now basically a "brick" after the failed iDrive 9 software update (no functions work - including releasing the handbrake), they had to rescue it using a remote-controlled lifting robot. At least the robot was pretty cool...

Checked my car today after the latest update downloaded at the weekend. For the past few days iDrive had been saying “awaiting activation”. Now it’s back to “search for updates” and that it’s the old version of ID9 (prior to 07.2023.53). Guess BMW have pulled it due to all the problems.

At this point, what are the chances of BMW facing a “class action” given they forced what is clearly beta software onto owners and then proceeded to “brick” their cars with a botched update to said beta (not in all cases, in fairness)? I mean, who actually has 100% confidence in their X1s right now?

don’t kid yourself this is a BMW specific issue, all forums are full of this nonsense with software. The industry is rife with it, whether you’re in a Volvo and Audi or whatever and is why until I get my car serviced in a few years I probably won’t update my software …

It's poor that updates do this no sugar coating it at all, whilst ours have been fine others most certainly haven't been. BMW are learning as many others are but these sorts of errors should be tested more than they are, they should give 20 people 5 years free servicing to take the beta release updates, the fact that many on ID9 are feeling like beta testers for the rest of the world is a case in point.

Maybe someone should write to Autocar / Auto Express etc. Having a glitch is one thing having a completely immobile car as a result of an update something on a whole other level.

Exactly this. The whole of UK is being used by BMW as guinea pigs for their new buggy ID9, at best its an inconvenience, at worst its downright dangerous.

If there is any cause for condemnatory journalism this is it.

Contact “Moneybox” or BBC watchdog, they’re the media with teeth for this kind of stuff.

I’m lucky that my id9 is behaving itself, but am conciious that it only works until it doesn’t…

Hey folks - first post here

I have an iX1 arriving on 30 Oct. I already have the VIN, and can see the production date of the car was 30/9/23. Does this mean I'm likely to have ID9?

I feel for you but now you know why I (and at least 3 others I know of) got rid for a full refund after 4 weeks of ownership and lived happily ever after.
I will be frank and currently see you as a troll on the forum, maybe that is how you want to come across. This is a forum to help BMW X1 U11 owners, by all means do that or leave and walk away as you have with your car.

Don’t rant back it really doesn’t matter what you say you are being corrosive now.

Put your VIN in one of the BMW decoders it should tell you what you have fitted for certain.

So, you're no longer an X1 owner?

Mapman handed his keys back and walked away.

With all modern cars in this class you will have issues with the computer software ranging from things you probably wouldn’t notice, some mildly annoying, having to occasionally reset the “computer” or getting an outright lemon.

I know people with Mercedes, JLR, Volvo and Audi SUVs with the latest models and they have a similar hit rate of issues, this is now the nature of the beast with modern technology cars. Read their forums and you will diacover similar issues.

If you’re lucky like me (and I have id9) the car is a dream, if you have a lemon then of course the opposite is true. You have no way of knowing whichever brand you go with if yours will be a hassle free life or not but bear in mind that you tend to find the worst examples/issues on forums as that is where people go to vent their frustrations and seek advice.

I wouldn’t let anyones extreme misfortune on a forum put you off if you love the way the car looks and drives.

An update on my X1 that failed to update iDrive 9 and had to be rescued a week and a half ago: they have replaced the DME (onboard computer) after being unable to recover the current one and also the 12V battery as the new DME was complaining about it. It’s being tested today and I’ll get it back today/tomorrow…

Wow, that's a lotta hassle for what should have been a simple upgrade!

For those that ask will id8 be upgraded to id9, we all know it won’t but 8.5, probably not.

But this article points to a little clarification that some ‘could’ get id8.5 from id8 but when and how, unclear and they don’t seem in a hurry for the 2series x1 etc.
