Today I got into my one month old iX1 after preheating it and upon entering several errors popped up, such as Driver Assistants Restricted and Emergency Call Error. The climate screen had frozen too and would not respond.

No problem, I’ll reboot iDrive by pressing down on the volume wheel for 30 seconds - nope, didn’t do anything. I tried several times. Locking then unlocking the car did no good either. Finally it worked again after leaving it parked for an hour.

Am I pressing the wrong button to reboot the iDrive? Anyone had a similar problem before? Note the intstrument cluster continued to work fine.

You have to be in drive-ready state in order for the restart to work.

I tried in both states, didn’t do anything. Maybe it was just really messed up. Error hasn’t returned since though.

Did it again today - seems to only happen after preheating the interior. IDrive still won’t reset and “Hey BMW” doesn’t respond. Touchscreen frozen. Looks like a dealer visit for me.

Maybe a dumb idea but try charging the battery?

If you could access it, I'd suggest powering down by disconnecting but that's not an easy task with how they have it mounted.....

I do a fair amount of driving every day, certainly enough that it should keep the 12v battery charged, but with the amount of 12v issues you hear on this forum it could be that. It’s booked in on Friday for them to look at anyway.

I had the same thought. I figured after a 3 hour drive the battery would be topped off. But that's not how it works. Unlike cars years ago the X1 isn't always charging. It's got a complicated system that charges while coasting. Or when the voltage drops below a certain threshold.

This "NO SIGNAL" happens sometimes in my 328, but then resets itself after about 1 minute--it never happened frequently enough during my warranty to get the dealer to check it. I haven't seen it in my X1.

Got the car back from the dealer - no fault found. They didn’t even update the software. Very annoying.

Incredible. These dealers are so afraid or updating to the latest software in case it breaks something else. Which explains why I hate software updates in the first place.
