X1 phev preconditioning & charging

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has managed to get the car to pull the power from the charger when pre conditioning?
Mine always pulls from the battery even when plugged in.
I am using the Hydra Zodiac and am starting to think it’s a compatibility issue.
The charger is set to charge at anytime, while the BMW is set to charge between midnight and 9am.
Departure is set for 8am.
The car chargers to full fine but the charger doesn’t come on again when preconditioning the car.

We are using the supplied charger but when I look at electricity usage I see a demand when I turned the car on to pre-heat yesterday that isn’t there other days. So I’d say it is pulling from electricity not from the car.

Hi Monty
Is that the three pin plug charger?

Yes, we haven’t fitted a faster charge yet as the PHEV doesn’t make much use of it anyway, will do at some point.

Ok thanks.
Maybe I’ll try the charger that came with mine.
If that engages when conditioning it must be the fast charger

How long does it take you to fully charge with that?

Can’t remember it isn’t fast but as it’s overnight makes little difference for her needs, I think it’s 2.2kw but the car can’t use more than 3.6 I think it was it’s a while since I did all the research.

It charges up to 7.4 kw iirc.

On our home charger it will fully charge in about 2 hours.

But I also think that ours also preconditions off the battery - even when plugged in to the charger.
So its useful to know that it will precondition from the charger on the 3 pin unit.

Mine pre-conditions through the charger (an Andersen A2) not the battery.

Just a thought - if you have a timed setting to take advantage of a low night tariff you need to be sure the timer is set on the car for this and not the charger otherwise if outside the time slot the car will precondition using the battery.
