iDrive 8 users miss out once again...

BMW is planning to significantly improve the personal assistant for iDrive 9, but of course, they completely ignore iDrive 8.

For us early adopters of the X1/iX1, I really feel robbed. It’s not like the development for iDrive 9 magically come out of the blue. They were developing it well before the X1 U11 was released and could’ve shipped all X11’s with the new Android-based head unit from the very beginning.

They will use Alexa. Thanks, but no thanks! I can probably rant for 18 pages about what I think about Alexa.... but that's for another forum. (dont' get me wrong, I absolutely love Amazon... my pure unadulterated hatred is for Alexa)

I'm so glad that I have iDrive 8.

BMW has never shown much sympathy for early adopters. And being the X1 is the entry level SUV, they care even less. It is what it is.

Im also glad about iDrive 8! I just wish that they wouldn’t so blatantly ignore iDrive 8 users and provide us with same/similar implementations/upgrades.

It’s the harsh truth, unfortunately

While part of me has the FOMO of not having the new tech, my car for the most part is problem free and does all I need it to do and more. I don’t regret being an early adopter, but I do think BMW made some poor choices in this model introduction from a consumer standpoint. Doesn’t matter anyway, they already took my money lol.

Exactly the same feeling for me. So far, problem free. IDrive 8 is doing everything I need. But the tech geek in me definitely has fomo. Although one thing keeping it at bay is that idrive 9 has that single layer UI, which I absolutely despise

It’s not so clear cut as to which is better, ID8 has features that are going to be charged on ID9 and it does seem more stable although you would hope that would fixed longer term.

Give me the 7 shortcut BUTTONs that BMWs got spot on that could be configured before now that have been removed and I would have any version, they are sorely missed on the X1.

The main issue here is that with planned obsolescence… and competition that doesn’t participate in the same behavior- means BMW will ultimately lose.

Sad that BMW doesn’t value its customers.

That and the I-drive wheel - after 11months of owning my X1, I still miss that very intuitive and easy-to-use control.

Agreed, the number of times I've tried to zoom in and out of the map when I think I'm in my car shows how easy it is. Trying to zoom in and out in the same way in the X1 is a pain to do the same thing that is so easy.

I agree - in fact I've not even found out how you can do it in the X1! If you zoom out with the wheel, it retains the focus on the car, but when you pinch on the X1, I can't find away for it to centre without zooming to the default.

Update: just had another play with it, looks like it might work in expanded view.

what why is everyone so confused? for me it works aslong as the centre of the pinch has that circle thing around the car?

It does work, but it's no where near as simple to do as when you have the wheel. Much safer too as you can do it without looking at the screen!

I was initially interested in the X1/X2 but have since shifted to the new 530i. Anyone have had bought the car from November until now will not get the super interactive Interaction Bar ambient lighting setup that starts on that model in March. All they get is a dual light strip.
