Added the lines to emphasize just how sloppy it is. Half an inch lower and not even level!

The guy paid extra for the X5 50i. Perfectly respectable car as is!

For whatever reason, it appears they tried to align the top of the M badge with the top of Xdrive 50i albeit still poorly

What's the tell? I can't tell if that's a m340i with a different exhaust, 340i with a M added, or a 330i with a new badge.

Tailpipes. But I can’t tell either tbh. Usually if not always those skinny pipes - one on each side- are for the 330i.

It’s 100% fake. G20 330 has two circular exhaust tips whereas the g20 m340 has two rectangular tips. It appears to have the square 225 all-season tires so it doesn’t have any of the m performance options.

Our g20 has the M sports package, M aerodynamic package and the Track Handling Package and summer 225/255 MPS4S tires. Nice thing is the only tiny M badges are on the steering wheel and the four wheels. No M badge de-badging whereas the picture above shows a car trying to live up to fake M up-badging. I feel sorry for the car. Poor car is going to need a psychiatrist as it grows up.

At least it's FAST. [compared to what I don't know].
I'll say this though. Don't know if I have ever seen a street that clean and that smooth.

It’s well known that that crowd is generally a little off kilter.

What a ///Mess.

These fake M badges equate to caring more about appearance than performance… at least the motivation is clear

I'm a relative notice (not up to noticing wrong tailpipes yet). The guy did add the 50th anniversary M roundel. I think I would have fallen for it and kept on driving.

Doesn't look like this specific owner cares about appearance though.

On that note:
Why do so many on these forums seem to despise people who put those badges on their cars? Are people afraid it devaluates their own car if they own an actual M?

Many here are tossing all kinds of M-accessories and M-parts on their cars and that seems to be no problem at all. M-style mirrorcaps, kidneygrills, bumpers, spoilers, exhaust-tips, wheels, steeringwheels, shiftknobs, carpets, pedals, you name it. I've even seen a dude on here that is transforming his 'normal' 335 or 340 completely to an M-lookalike, including hood, bumpers and fenders. Then it is all ah's and oh's. But if someone dares to put an M-badge on his/her car: "oh, the horror!".

Why care so much?

Yeah, I can understand the first point...
Point 2: although i personally agree with what you are saying, it is just ones opinion and a matter of taste, so debatable.
But 3: i'm guessing than that everybody who 'complaints' about this, has not modified his/her car with M-parts in any way purely for aesthetic reasons? What I am trying to say is that in my opinion this is not that different from adding badges. (From a purist point of view.)
