All I am saying is just few 2023 models have ID8 and rest have ID9 including further 2023 models.

All you folks "holding out" for iDrive 9, just note that the iD8 location glitch with Waze, Google Maps and Apple Maps has been known by BMW since at least last June, and has not been fixed yet. Being an early adapter isn't always what you bargain for....

Right, so my build was Sept '19 HEA dealer full spec for a '20MY. Came with every feature that was available at the time, including CarPlay but no AA. I've been Android for eons. My SA forewarned me that my build would not include AA or wireless AA, but it WAS going to be available approx 4 months later for the LCI build. Didn't care. Wanted the vehicle. Period. Wasn't bothered because I use an app to give me waze, maps and Spotify (AAiDrive in the play store).

So yup...running the first iteration of ID7. Second iteration included wireless AA (and of course fixes etc.) It wasn't possible to retrofit wireless AA (and other new features) because it was all new hardware, not just software.

Point is...there are times you can always be in a 'wait-state' always waiting/wanting the next version...and sometimes, the next version is necessarily what you might expect.

As you have a software development experience, I thought you understands what a version 7 and version 8 difference means for a software, than updating on version 7 to 7.1,7.2 etc. And releasing a version 8 and immediately moving to version 9 for a product, how the support works. Because myself working in software industry, the focus always moves to a version which was majorly released which here is ID9, because ID8 has fewer release builds. Here if BMW sells 10,000 X1's, just under 1000 or may be under 500 models will have ID8. X1 i think ID9 will be staying for 2024 X1 models as well.

I'm sure it's just me, but I'm not following what you're saying...no worries.

Discussion has grown old now....hold out for whatever version suits you best

It sounds like current X1s won’t be getting 8.5 after all?

Quote:
The new BMW Operating System 8.5 will be gradually introduced in all midsize, executive and luxury model ranges1) from BMW. It will continue to be based on Linux and will be combined with the largest version of the BMW Curved Display.

1) BMW Operating System 8.5 compatibility by model and start of production:
BMW 7 Series; BMW iX, BMW i4, BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7, BMW XM gradually from July 2023; further models to follow, subject to change
And X1s produced 11/23 and beyond will get iDrive 9:

Quote:
The digital experience on the specific BMW Curved Display of the compact- class models2) with the new BMW Operating System 9, based on Android Open Source Project software, is being developed

2) BMW Operating System 9 compatibility by model and start of production:
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer from November 2023; BMW X1 from November 2023; further models to follow, subject to change
Not sure what that means for X1s produced before 11/23. Possibly will be stuck with iDrive 8?

Was reading the thread on the main page of bimmerpost and apparently there was an update to the press release saying some models with iDrive 8 could do an OTA update at a later date to 8.5

Probably they have decided ID9 for 2024 model.

This Car & Driver article says "This summer, iDrive 8.5 will be available on models that currently have iDrive 8; these include all EVs, the X5 SUV through the new plug-in-hybrid XM, and the 7-series". I'd prefer if it said "all models"....

Boy I hope I don't have to wait for this to get the GPS glitch fixed...

FWIW Autoblog said in an article about iDrive 8.5:

"Smaller cars positioned in what the firm refers to as the "compact class," including the BMW 3 and 4 Series presumably, will need to wait until the Android-based iDrive 9 software comes out to receive an updated infotainment system. The 2024 BMW X1 will be the first to get it. "

Do you think BMW will leave the 2023 X1 at iDrive 8? It is odd that the recent press release didn’t mention anything about the 2023 X1. It is hard to imagine they wouldn’t update it to 8.5.

If they don't update to 8.5, then you won't be missing a single thing. Be happy with your current set-up...

Am happy with current set-up, however when sold a car with “remote software update” as an advertised feature, and for me that feature being a purchase influencer, should there not be some sort of upgrade with new capabilities it will be disappointment.

Brand new model should be capable of taking the brand new software. Seriously, would you expect to buy this year's iPhone and then find out it won't support the OS being released a few months later? C'mon BMW, this ain't good enough.
