New remote software upgrade

Any noticeable changes to the issues we are dealing with?

This one is supposed to address the Apple CarPlay GPS drift, right?

Got a notification via the app this morning that 03/2023.45 has been downloaded and is ready to install.

The app has not been showing status updates for last hour or so.

Status finally updated just now and is reporting "Starter battery health is limited".

I haven't even installed the update yet. Not looking good right now.

Installed it yesterday. No noticeable changes except seems some fonts became bigger in UI (but maybe it's just mine perception). Will continue to monitor the behavior.

And yes, some weird behavior with key just after installation as other experienced in other thread here on remote software upgrade: key fob was inside the car and was not recognized just after upgrade finished, leaving the car and locking/unlocking the car with key fob fixed it.

Thanks! I'm new to the X1 and I've been driving around while leaving the key fobs at home. I now realize how dangerous that is because the car easily decide not to accept my phone as the key and strand me somewhere between here and Nova Scotia!

i have the exact same issue... starter battery and also multiple service needed.
the funny thing is that the car is presently at BMW and I phoned them to go and check on the car. All ok. so it looks like a software glitch and not a real issue

welcome to early software releases !

Me too. Software glitch? I didn't get an alert in the car.

You should try to make it all the way to Nova Scotia — we like visitors!

Seriously, I had the same thought about driving w/o the fob. I set up Digital Key but haven’t relied on it yet.

technically, I have been to Nova Scotia once. It was the later 1980s. I was on a Pan Am 747 from Frankfurt to Washington Dulles. It landed at Halifax for a medical emergency. At first, nobody was allowed to get off the plane(except the man who was offloaded). However, the pilot later came and said passengers would be bused into the terminal, while the plane was refueled for the remaining few hundred miles. Total time on the ground was probably less than 2 hours.

Perhaps after my X1 has gone through the break-in period, I'll take a long road trip up there, perhaps even go as far as France.(St. Pierre)

As for driving without a key fob, it was a few days ago that I was almost 2 hours away from home. I suddenly realized that the key fob wasn't in my pocket. Then I remembered that I had left it in my garage ever since I activated the digital key on my phone. Didn't even have the physical digital key card with me, so it was kind of risky.

Yeah, mine was back dated to March also. I'm going to look at the in-car Check Control status on my way home before calling the dealer.

I also had a brake malfunction warning....

But then .... as I was typing this post ... they warnings literally all disappeared....

Looks like it was a glitch, back to normal now.

Why's it "risky"? The Digital Key is .... a key.

Yep, that still isn’t uncommon. Medical or mechanical issues and a diversion to Halifax.

That’d definitely be an interesting road trip. A lot of people don’t know that you can drive (well, take a car ferry) from Canada to France.

I got the battery/service warnings in the app before I had even installed the upgrade. The upgrade went smoothly as far as I can tell. All keys and connected services working in the car and no check control messages in the car but the starter battery/service warnings come and go in the My BMW App.

initially my wife didn't see the warnings in the app on her phone but they have appeared for her now.

I've been using my phone/watch as my key since I got the car in January, and carry the card in my wallet as a backup. I've never had an issue with the car unlocking or starting, ever. The only time I use the fob is when I have to valet the car because I don't have time to explain to the valet how the key card works. I even went to the beach the other day with nothing but my watch and it was completely fine.

Out of curiosity, is your Apple Watch cellular or GPS version? Hoping to go fobless once my car comes in, but have been wondering if the key on a GPS watch without the phone around would work.

Mine is the Ultra with a cellular plan, but the key should work on a GPS version since it’s only using the ultra wideband chip to authenticate with the car to unlock it. From everything I read it’s only proximity based and doesn’t communicate with any servers or require cellular transmission of any kind.
