Haven't see an issue on ID8 like this, seems to be specific to the current build of ID9 it seems. No issues on ID7 either so doesn't look at the Apple side.

My id9 works fine with Carplay, struggled for two weeks at the start but hasn’t been an issue since. Weird how random it all is

Just got the call from dealer service dept, they fixed the issue but had to have a new head unit ordered and installed.

Car has been at service for about 2 weeks now.

Exact same issue on my M35i. Maybe anecdotal, but seems worse the more things I have going (Pandora drops every five minutes or so, phone calls drop every five minutes or so, navigation drops every five minutes or so, but any combination seems to make it drop every 90 seconds/two minutes).

(Note: by “drop” I mean my phone loses connection to the car. The phone call, navigation, etc. keep going and I have plenty of cell signal.)

so got the car back from the dealer today, the connection does cut out intermittently but only for a second or so now, it used to be like 30sec to multiple minutes.

I am going to reach out to them again but it sounds like it's now a software issue, they sent me a video where the tech paired his phone, let an entire song elapse, to show that they aren't getting any connection issues on their end.

I will try to unpair the car in the morning and re-pair it to see if that helps

I updated to ios17 on my phone and I went from stuttering every few minutes for a second or two to now every few seconds for 5-10 seconds. Boy was that a mistake...

Not sure if they HAVE to, but they did since they realized it was a car that was only 2-3 weeks old

Just taken delivery of X1 with iDrive 9. Definitely some quirks including heat and steering wheel heating that turns on every time I start it up. Dealer said this is linked to the outside temperature, but there doesn’t appear to be any way you can adjust it. Also, comfort access only seems to work from the passenger door not the drivers even if the iDrive option is set to “open all doors”. When set to “open on approach” even if it is supposed to open all doors, it only opens the driver side. Dealer is baffled and wants to plug the car in for analysis. Only a week old!

JeffH try turning off the All Climate Functions in the Climate Menu that may stop the heating coming on.

so tried to pair car to carplay after disconnecting and forgetting device, the next time i tried i could not connect, at all. I must have tried 50 times.

I did notice there was an update for iOS and took a shot knowing this may make matters worse.

The car and phone finally paired after a few attempts, but I am still getting this gap in sound intermittently, and now it does this thing where it completely drops and disconnects from the phone altogether.

So will likely be going back to service. I believe this is the 3rd attempt to resolve the issue now.

We are having the exact same issues with frequent 1-3 second interruptions while using CarPlay. The connection also occasionally drops completely and takes an extended period to reconnect. You can actually see a clock counting when ID9 tries to reestablish a connection on the phone pairing screen. The system seems to recognize that the connection was lost.

We haven’t had any issues like you are having pairing iPhones. Our phones use the latest iOS on an iPhone 13 and iPhone 15 Pro Max. We also updated ID9 OTA today to 07/2023.72 which seems to have no effect on these issues. We are going to take it in for service to see if anything can be improved. This and the start/stop logic have greatly eroded the functionality of what has the potential to be a great vehicle. My wife is ready to get rid of it after only a couple weeks of ownership.

Does iDrive 9 have the "deactivate once" feature for the auto start stop that exists in iDrive 8?

It has the “deactivate once” feature buried 4-5 layers deep in the menus. This has be be reset every time the vehicle is started.

The only other feasible option I have found is to pull the transmission selector back a notch to engage S mode anytime a rapid start is anticipated. You can revert back to normal D mode by pulling the selector again. For me that is somewhat manageable, but for my wife it’s not and this is her primary vehicle. If BMW will release an update to enable the start/stop feature to retain the start/stop setting it would resolve the issue.

Is it possible to do wired CarPlay? I tried to wire connect the phone to the car but CarPlay still works via BT/Wifi. Maybe I am missing something.

Also do we know when the next major update is coming? 07/2023.72 seems to be related to breaks cooling.

The CarPlay feature is wireless only. It's not currently possible to do a wired setup.

You can create a shortcut in the pulldown menu to access the start/stop deactivation. Unfortunately, I don't think BMW will allow you to permanently deactivate the feature by remembering the last setting. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it has to do with their EPA and emissions certifications.

So I finally got the July OTA update yday - 23D June build. Seemed to install with no real issues - claims to improve performance when pulling away. So will see how it performs

That will never happen due to legal reasons.

I have something similar in my current Audi S3. Carplay connection drops completely then automatically reconnects after a few seconds. When it does this if you're listening to the radio it mutes it and connects to media, but doesn't play anything. It's really fkin annoying....

I expect this will vary by country. I am in the USA and our 2023 M4 has this exact feature. From the factory ASS was the default setting, but you can push a disable button on the center console and the ASS disable stays in effect until you press the button again even after the vehicle is shut down. It seems possible, but I recognize that it is unlikely that BMW will revise the ID9 software to change the one-time disable selection to a toggle.
