Map update
Had the iX1 since May and not had any map updates come through yet. On my iDrive 7 3 series used to get 3 or 4 per year and usually download via the PC app and uploaded via USB stick.
Does iDrive 8 handle it differently? |

I’ve had 2 OTA for the UK maps and 2 full updates that I have downloaded via the BMW Map Manager. Have you had a look on the portal to see if there is an update available?
Forgot to say I have had the car since March. |

Thanks for confirming. I figured out why I wasn't seeing the updates on the downloader, I forgot I switched the primary user from my wife to me when setting up the Apple CarKey. Not obvious from the downloader but you need to be have the car against your profile and be the primary user. I was logging in as her and it just said no updates available.

Current version for Europe is 2023-3 via BMW Download Manager. Possibly one more update pending for 2023.

Blimey, that was hot on the heels of 2023-3.

I was driving this afternoon and the map update suddenly appeared on the screen. 2023-4... but wait... it's almost the end of October? Oh well.. it's still better than the factory navigation update on my previous Lexus and that map was always 18 to 24 months out of date!
Unfortunately, after the updated was applied, half of my street, including my house, was still not updated in BMW's sat nav maps.(house and street were built last year) So I still have to use Apple Maps or Google Maps because they added my house and street more than 8 months ago. (map for the U.S. and Canada) |

oh, I didn't even think to check it. After that pop-up showed up on the screen, I just clicked the "restart navigation now" button. I figured it would just update my maps to 2023-4. will check it when I get home this evening.

Now that I think about it... my very first factory navigation system was on a Lexus almost 25 year ago. It worked great for months until I drove from NJ to NYC. I took a wrong turn and ended up going into Lincoln Tunnel(or Holland Tunnel, can't remember which, it was almost 25 years ago). The factory navigation voice told me to make a very illegal and impossible U-Turn while I was halfway inside the tunnel. My father was in the passenger seat and I still remember his words "see, I told you not to waste $2000 on this stupid navigation!" Oh how time flies... at that time, nobody had "smartphones" yet, let alone Gogole Maps or Apple Maps. Last edited by SpaceSilverX1; 10-26-2023 at 10:01 AM.. |

There is a new BMW Map Updater download that is at least available in the UK within the past month (or less).
It may be available for you to download and set up via the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, possibly depending upon whether you still have access to that within the time period applicable to your account (I have that for the 3 years from when I bought my UK 220i Active Tourer (U06) during 3/2022. Presumably it would also apply to U11 owners. For what it's worth, I find aspects of the Navigation/Speed Limit display particularly concerning, because there are quite frequent instances where the displayed speed limit (or anticipated limit change) is completely wrong and can, for example, when using cruise control, automatically adjust the driving speed to something in excess of the actual limit. |
