can anyone show me how to change the cabin air filter?

can anyone show me how to change the cabin air filter?

I was kind of surprised that it was not included in the free maintenance service. then again, BMW probably wanted to save some money?

My understanding is that yearly changing of cabin filter is included for 3 year as part BMW’s FREE ULTIMATE CARE maintenance program. As are engine filter & oil & filter changes (every yr or 10k miles), remote control batteries, brake fluid replacement at 3 years or 30k miles.

If this is correct have them change it when it’s due.

According to this, the cabin air filter is covered: https://www.bmwusa.com/explore/bmw-v...onditions.html

Where did you see that it's not included?

it varies depending on the model of the car, unfortunately.

I already had the first free service. when the BMW dealer scanned my key fob, the computer automatically popped up with list of items to be performed.(oil, oil filter, vehicle check, windshield washer fluid, brake cleaner)

When I asked, the service advisor told me that the cabin filter replacement is only performed by BMW on the 2nd oil change(at 2-year or 24,000 miles). The engine air filter is not included at all during the first 3 years. BMW's printed schedule shows engine air filter to be replaced at the 4th service at 40,000 miles.(which is beyond the free 3 years)

Noticed that a major service item, replacement of spark plugs, is also NOT included as part of the free 3-year service for the X1.(which is scheduled for the 6th service at 60,000 miles)

Although.. to be fair, my salesman already explained all that to me even before I bought the X1. I just kind of forgot about the air filters not being included. I waited several months for my X1 to get here, so I forgot all about it, until the service advisor scanned my key recently.

You can check it out by downloading the maintenance schedule PDF file on BMW's website

So, replacement of the cabin air filter is included in the free maintenance service. It's just not included per the schedule you expected (1st oil change).

I had very few miles(less than 7000 during the first years).

However, my area is dusty and filthy, so both the cabin filter and engine air filter are presumably quite dirty, based on my experience with all the cars that I've owned in the past.

By the way, my friendly BMW dealer wants... hope you're sitting down for this..... $137 to change the engine air filter... $122 to change the cabin air filter. That's why I prefer to do them myself.

I understand and not surprised about those dealer quotes.

I guess you'll just have to go by their proposed schedule similar to the oil change interval.

Personally, I don't agree with waiting until 10,000 miles on a brand new engine to change my oil. So, I've already changed my oil and filter prior to the free service scheduled for December.

When needed, I also do my own air filters and other basic maintenance.

Perhaps if you explain the unusual dusty conditions you experience, they might make an exception for you.

I think it will be similar to the previous X1 as in this video as platform is the same, even with some visual differences:
