Child seat and two adults in rear seat

Grandkid is visiting for a few weeks and we found that the child seat behind the passenger seat makes for an uncomfortable seating option for two adults.

I don't remember our 2014 E84 X1 having the same problem. I thought the U11 would have been slightly wider in the back.

We moved the child seat to the center and it's much better.

That's the safest position anyway

I thought it's safest to have car seat behind driver's seat ...

No--the middle is the furthest from a side impact.

As a followup, we did a 300 mile trip over spring break and all worked out OK with two adults and the child seat in the middle of the rear seat.

On a related note, how is everyone's experience with the rear seating space with three normal sized adults in the rear seat?
