Now hopefully the bugs bit will be minor, but as we are starting to get a few people about to get their cars with ID9 a thread might be useful.

Post any feedback, view on features, subscriptions etc. still looks like it’s UK bound cars that are getting it at the moment but that will change later in the year.

So, just picked it up. Seems ok and yet to explore but a weird bug is that when it shows the Icon of the music I’m playing via CarPlay on the main display is like a widget thing, the icon flashes - wouldn’t be able to video the effect.

Oh you got it great, I'm sure they will tweak things like that pretty quickly. How are you find it so far.

Quite impressed with ID8 its certainly pretty quick, not having the iDrive wheel isn't really a problem but I wouldn't want to play with the screen too much whilst driving that is for certain that is when the wheel used to be great.

Seems fairly smooth to operate but it won’t connect to my phone app yet, I think this makes it more friendly but I suspect BMW may need to intervene to get it connected.

Oh it was just connect via a QR code on ours was pretty seemless.

Yeah, that’s how it worked in mine but has still got an error saying failed to connect. I’ll give it a few days and speak to the dealers - the car got damaged so I have more important things to deal with first

So the majority seems to be working well with IDrive9 - however I can’t get my phone to pair up as a key currently. Nor can I get the remote interior camera view to work (works fine within the car). It also seems there’s no option for augmented reality navigation? I have the plus pack which should include it as I have 360 cameras and heads up display /etc. will ask the dealership.

Oh no the augmented reality nav is great in some situations definitely chase that one down. I did have to ensure I'd added all the privacy warnings etc. before the remote would work properly but has worked every time after that.

So quick update regarding augmented nav - the dealership checked the release notes and found that it’s not available yet and will be available from July via an OTA update.

We still have Issues with Android Auto on ID9, as in that phones were simply unable to connect, no matter what brand we were using (Samsung, Pixel, Huawei).

Went to dealer earlier this week who did a hard reset of the whole system (not the one via Volume button), after which we were able to successfully connect our phones. Unfortunately this process means that all profiles & keys have to be re-added, all saved settings are gone etc., so it is not something we would want to do regularly.

Anyway, this morning I got in the car and my Samsung was again unable to connect to Android Auto. When I try to connect Android Auto the screen goes black for a moment and then nothing happens. Picked up my wife's phone to check, and hers has the same Issue. Fairly annoying, as it means I will likely have to do another full reset.

I reported back to the dealer, but have a feeling that the system doesn't like multiple phones to be connected to the system. Will test that theory by only connecting one phone for the next week or so.

Unless this has changed, I know I can save driver profiles to a thumb drive. When they update the software or in your case a hard reset and I upload the profiles. Everything comes back, seat,presets, layout.

FYI for those awaiting their X1s being built now (end of June/beginning of July) they will come with ID8. I just confirmed this with Genius. My replacement X1 is in the paint booth right now.

I don't know that it means that necessarily. I assume the ID8 hardware is the ID8 hardware. I've also read that ID8 cannot be upgraded either OTA or via hardwire at the dealer.

UK is currently playing the beta tester role for ID9 all other markets are still ID8 until later in the year, approx October onwards. Hardware is apparently different so no route from ID8 to ID9.

All US models will get ID8 most likely until ID9 rolls out globally to all models. Currently only UK has been announced to have ID9 on select trims.

Hi. I’ve had my UK U11 with iDrive 9 since early June. Love it mainly, but some features are missing or I can’t figure out how to use (mainly from Technology Plus pack). It’s going to the dealer today as they also couldn’t figure it out on a quick visit recently.

Items MIA:

Augmented Reality Maps (heard above coming in July)
Drive Recorder (no app)
Cross-traffic detection when parking (no option as described in manual)
Collision detection at junctions (no option as described in manual)

Bugs encountered so far are minor:

Flashing album art on Home Screen when using CarPlay
Sometimes won’t connect to CarPlay (restarting iDrive fixes)
BMW assistant not always active (restart fixes)
ActiveGuard disabled once and then recovered

To restart iDrive, hold down the volume button on the centre arm rest for 10 or so seconds.

Will keep you posted on what they find today/tomorrow.

+1 for Carolay and having to restart every few days to reconnect. That and my trips never worked on my app.

I was told by my dealer about a new software update coming this month which should fix most or all of these issues, I am hoping it comes sooner rather than later

Just got back from BMW dealer. They investigated the items I mentioned in previous post and have said:

-Augmented Maps is due this month (July 2023) via OTA update
- Drive Recorder is due in November 2023 via OTA Update
- Collision warning at junctions is only via Driving Assistant which I can subscribe to
- They are not sure about reversing cross traffic warning and are going to get back to me

I feel they should've waited to release ID9, especially if core features aren't even available yet such as the augmented maps and drive recorder. Those were huge selling points for me when buying the car. It would have been better if they had done more internal development and testing and released it on all '24 models instead of using the UK as a test bed.
