This car makes me so angry!
I sometimes have a little bit of road rage at other stupid drivers but I have never had it at the actual car I'm driving but I'm sick and tired of this damn vehicle!
On a short journey today I discovered my drive recorder, which has been working for a few months now, has just vanished. Service is still active, it has just gone, I have done a reset. Not only that my centre screen and HUD just decided not to work along with driver assistance being restricted on the return journey. Had to pull over and restart the car to get it back again. The bugs and lag of iDrive9 has now placed me firmly in the 'the car is dangerous to drive' category. It should not be this way, how they are ok to release this software, let alone allowed to by driving authorities baffles me. I have the car booked in at the dealers but not until 10th April, the first date available. Not sure what that says about BMW if the first appointment is nearly 3 weeks away? Rant over! |

It's a 10 week+ wait to get in at most UK Porsche dealers currently.
Longer if you need a courtesy car. Trust me, it's far worse than BMW. I know that doesn't help sorry. Last edited by Fish Fingers; 03-21-2024 at 11:17 AM.. |

Trouble is if you decide to get rid, what do you replace it with? Just about every other make of car seems to be having software issues as far as I can see? Must admit, the fact that Android Auto keeps cutting out is making me so disappointed with this car which pales into insignificance to the issues others are having.
This is my first BMW and probably my last. |

I've chilled out a little now
Still really annoyed with this car, when it all works it really works, if they could just sort the software out it would likely be the best car I've owned. A friend has an ix1 and is still on idrive8, never had an update since he got the vehicle last March. He has zero issues and loves the car. Hopefully he never gets an upgrade! I know other cars have issues, I feel the legacy car manufacturers have messed up with software, hopefully they can reign it in a bit and concentrate on what customers actually want. |

I had a 2019 Hyundai i30N that I absolutely loved and (stupidly) sold it because I got a 2021 Peugeot 308 GT Wagon as a work car (worst car I've ever had). The Hyundai never had an issue with either Apple Car Play or Android Auto. The Peugeot is the worst! I have to use Bluetooth to even be able to play music. Forget Waze or Google maps.
I'm hoping the new X1 is a tick better...if it is, then I'll be thanking the Gods. Is there a way to reset the software to factory spec? That might be worth looking into. |

I have a 2023 x1 id8 with zero issues and no updates since I picked up the car from the dealer … imo another overall great driving bmw! (My 5th) |

Mini Countryman OS
The new 2025 Mini Countryman’s OS is also based on BMW OS9, but the UX is unique to Mini.

Never buy first gen of everything if you think it’s going to come out perfect. Defects everywhere especially for cars.
The safest option is usually to buy a year before a new refresh. that way you know all the defects and issues there is about the car before you purchase. But I agree, bmw should’ve done more and better. |

First generation (E84; starting in 2009)
Second generation (F48/F49; starting in 2016) Third generation (U11/U12; starting in 2022) Making things more complicated - the U11 has been delivered running iDrive 8 and 9. Infotainment and HUD stop working until reset? Hardly expecting perfection. Let’s stop blaming the consumer Last edited by Fahren German; 03-22-2024 at 06:35 AM.. |

And some folks were in such a hurry to get ID9...always shooting for the latest and (supposed) greatest...sadly predictable

I have been having a very specific issue to the assisted driving features.
Mid driving I get a fault that says “assisted driving features have been permanently disabled” I use the adaptive cruise control and the active steering all the time. When I get that error it resets when I’ve gotten back into my car at the end of the day. Other times I get an error saying assisted driving has been limited due to eyesight detection. I am very tall and often wear a baseball hat and I wear glasses. I believe there is a camera in the small vent near the sunroof button that makes sure it can see your eyes so that you aren’t falling asleep or something. But my height causes issues. Am I crazy? |

I believe there is a sensor/camera in the top of the instrument cluster to check it you have fallen asleep or are not paying attention?
When I test drove the car back last March it was idrive8 and I don't recall having any issues when playing around. My car took quite some time to arrive so I ended up with idrive9 from day one. Not my choice and I'm stuck with it. |

I was a little disappointed that BMW moved to a new OS so soon after they released the car, but after the past few months of hearing everyones issues with ID9 I’m happy I have ID8. Works almost perfectly for me, just wish they had a few more options in the interface.
