Hi, I'm one of the lucky man who bought the X1 with the ID8 OS but I noticed that ID9 is quite more useful and up to date.
Have you experienced an hardware switch from ID8 to ID9? or do you know if is it possibile to do it?

It isn’t possible to upgrade from iD8 to iD9, it is a totally different operating system. If you do a search of the forum you will see many discussions on this.

My X1 was delivered in Feb 2024 with Idrive9, but I did not get the new features with the latest update 07/2024.

When I contacted BMW, they told me that this was because my vehicle did not leave the factory with that version..

This suggests that there was in fact already a hardware change for vehicles delivered with Idrive9...

There have been some hardware changes that are completely unrelated to the OS change the OP is referring to. this hardware change you’re referring to relates to other things such as the ability to upgrade to parking assistant professional from parking assistant plus.

The hardware change the OP is referring to is about upgrading the head unit that runs iDrive 8 to the head unit that runs iDrive 9.

This head unit is a whole new system. IDrive 8 runs on Linux and iDrive 9 runs on Android. There is no way to upgrade the head unit without spending a crazy amount of money (maybe even then it might not be possible!) it would be cheaper and faster, to sell your car, and get a new one with iDrive 9

Can I ask what country you are in?
My iX1 delivered in July 2024 has idrive 8, was produced October 2023.

I was answering the post above mine (which I should have quoted).

I can imagine that some hardware has changed for parking assistant pro. However, I can't even set Efficient driving mode as default. This suggests a change in the head unit hardware.

Strange. I’m in iDrive 8 and can set that as the starting driving mode

But in any case, not being able to set efficient mode to default driving mode is probably a software bug rather than head unit upgrade.
