Has anyone tuned their X1 or X2 M35i?
Hello I'm just coming on here to ask if anyone has done a tune on their new M35i or any other mods related to power. I just picked mine up and I'm just trying to get a sense of the aftermarket because there seems to be close to nothing out there for it. Thanks

I don’t have the M35i however currently the general consensus is that the ECU / electronics are that locked down by BMW there’s very little that can be done.
I’ve read that even Bimmercode don’t really want anything to do with the U11 because of the encryption on the electrical system. Last edited by Gaffer_H; 11-07-2024 at 02:29 AM.. |

HOWEVER, according to one of the master technicians at the dealership here the X1/X2 is so connected, that BMW can see anytime you bring in the car and have the dealer hook it up for diagnostics, whether your car has done anything it wasn't supposed to do (exceed redline, boost target higher than stock, etc.). There's a "black box" that records everything, and even disconnecting the battery won't reset it. So, if you're under warranty, good luck if something breaks.

Yes, they can see everything. Skip to 10:57 in this video of a rebuilt crash damaged M5 and it shows a BMW tech hooking it up to the diagnostics and what they can find out

A few people on here are using the JB4 with varying degrees of improved power and or throttle feel. Probably not worth it on the M35i guises as BMW has tuned it to near max performance (very high stock boost) and without significant upgrades you won't see much difference outside of throttle delivery. Also, unfortunately, the new cars cannot be unlocked for flash tunes such as BM3 or MHD because of the nature of how the car is backended to the cloud.

He’s recently bought and repaired Marcus Rashfords’ (Manchester United footballer if you’re not from the UK) smashed up Rolls Royce Wraith Mansory edition. Last edited by Gaffer_H; 11-09-2024 at 01:51 AM.. |

Yes I also watched the Rashford one plus a few others. Incredible how much adhesive (panel bond) is used in car construction now

It’s also amazing how damaged a car can be and yet be still put back on the road with zero trace of damage via any sort of vehicle check.

Yes, definitely. At least Matt tries to do it correctly, more concerning are the people doing it that bodge things and as you say, there is no record of damage.
