X001M35i Build Thread

Hi Everyone,

I am setting up this thread to track the order, build, delivery, and beyond of my incoming 2024 X1 M35i, feel free to follow along!

Here's some background on me:

I have been a big BMW guy for as long as I can remember. This will be the 4th BMW I will be taking delivery of in 14+ years behind the wheel. Tracking the orders and builds has always been something that I enjoy so below you can find some past threads of my prior builds. My first was a 2011 135i Coupe (DCT, Jet Black, Coral Red), second was a 2014 M235i (6 Speed, Black Sapphire, Coral Red) and third was a 2018 M2 (6 Speed Black Sapphire, Black w/ Blue stitch). The M2 has been in the garage for 5 years now, and though it started life as my everyday driver, it has shifted into a track day/ weekend toy.

A few years ago I bought a year old 2019 VW GLI 6 Speed, a great daily driver. I had that car for about 3 years until I sold it in January of this year with the intention of using a family member's car who was leaving the country for 6 months and then picking up something new. I drove their M235i Gran Coupe which surprised me. Knowing it was a front-drive-based X-drive system, I had my reservations. But to be honest something in the tuning or setup of that car makes it a very eager feeling fun car to drive and an ideal daily.

So the plan was, to get into something new around June, and as we got closer I decided on a Tesla Model 3 Performance. But knowing a refreshed model 3 was coming, I have been on hold for the last few months waiting for the facelift.

That was, until a few weeks ago when BMW revealed the X1 M35i. I have loved the look of the new X1 since its release, but now with the M touches, I was in! So I got on a list with my local dealer (first on their list) and started waiting. Follow the details of my build, order, delivery, and modification process below.

Shipping Tracking

Today I finally received word that the car is on the ship and enroute. The ship left the BREMERHAVEN port on 10/25 and is set to arrive at the port in BRUNSWICK, GA in about 19 days give or take a day or two. Tracking shows it has yet to arrive at BREMERHAVEN, not sure if this is a glitch or if the car has actually just been assigned a ship but has not yet left port, contrary to what I was told.

The ship is the Durban Highway and can be tracked using some of the sites below, though it seems they are a bit behind:

https://www.myshiptracking.com/vesse...00-imo-9536961

https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/details/9536961

https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:461691/mmsi:371885000/imo:9536961/vesselURBAN_HIGHWAY

11/09/2023 Update

Ship arrived to Sparrow's Point. ETA set as 11/11/2023 for Brunswick where the car will be unloaded.

11/12/2023 Update

Ship arrived to Brunswick port. Stop sale is still showing open, but other cars have started closing and moving to dealerships.

11/21/2023 Update

BMW Genius line confirmed that the work order is in progress since the 18th.

11/30/2023 Update

BMW Genius line confirmed that the work order was closed and the car was turned over to the transport company on the 29th.

12/2/2023 Update

Car landed at the dealer today and was picked up.

Here are some photos from delivery day and from when I got the car back home. Bonus pics with my wife’s X3 and my M2.

Some high level initial impressions are:

- The ride is firm, but nothing like my M2 track toy. Perfect fit for a daily driver for me.
- The car has all the nice new tech features that I was looking for.
- The car is super quiet. After trying it off and on, I am choosing to leave the active sound on because it sounds nice and sporty... even if it isn't real.
- I can see what everyone is taking about with the delay getting going on the DCT. Already annoying me but I assume with some time I will somewhat get used to it.
- More impressions to come as the miles ramp up in the future...

Absolute madman, ordering without the configurator being live. Stoked to see threads like this going up; subbed!

Live now, but missing the M Sport Pro package. Was able to add extended shadowline and sport seats individually though for the same look, but can't add the red brakes. Only getting more excited about the build.

Following along, OP. Very curious about how you like it! An E30 was my first car some 10 years ago and since then I’ve had many of them. I currently have an F48 and have kinda fallen in love with it, despite the litany of reasons as to why I shouldn’t, according to forums. I’ve driven M cars across the gamut and generations. I’ve driven base, “M-lite,” etc. They all have their own feel, enough to warrant my interest in this car to the point I’m seriously considering one as my F48 has some miles on it now. I can only imagine what nearly 100 extra horsepower will do in an already peppy product. My F48 has had plenty of power for the age I got it (23), and before just jumping into something crazy, I think I’m okay with something of a “stepping stone”? That being said, if when I test drive one of these, I’m not sold, I might just jump into an M4, so who knows!

That all said, I’m quite optimistic and hopeful that this might be my next car. It’s sharp.

Excited to see your build progress. I'm currently at the point in my life where I can afford small luxuries, but doing a bunch of mods on a new car is financially irresponsible. An older car on the other hand lol.......I've got something coming that will keep me entertained until I can get an actual M car.

Thanks and fair enough. Depending on what mods you plan to do though, you can get away fairly inexpensively without much real risk. That's the plan on this one, a few things to make it my own but not planning on a real "Build" in the typical sense.

I'm also leasing mine with no current plans to buy, so any mods I do have to be removable lol. I can't completely ditch the mods bug, as I've already put rims on the car, and will probably do more minor cosmetic things, but engine/suspension mods are largely off the table for me.

I'd love to have an M2 though, and as much as I hated it's design when it was announced, the G87 is really growing on me.

Hear that for sure. Engine mods for now will probably be an intake to hear more turbo noises but that’s about it which is basic and easy to remove (already sitting in the garage). Having a service advisor who will work with you is huge as well.

Everything else will be cosmetic. For now at least…

The new M2 has grown on me but not enough to seriously consider it. At this point if I ditch my M2 it’ll only be for a Porsche. That said no plans to do that any time soon, loving my M2 as is, and especially after just getting an upgraded turbo installed as a result of blowing the stock one.

The turbo and diverter valve on the 28i is surprisingly noticeable. Not BOV and big turbo loud, but with the windows down the DV seems louder than the one on my e90 N55 before I got the DP and exhaust. Every so often I will just hold a gear and build boost just to hear it lol.

Yep. But a little intake won’t hurt! I’m excited to feel it out stock but I think the intake will wake it up just enough for me.
