I convinced a friend of mine to place an order after I had placed mine back in April. His entered production June, but mine didn't start until July. He has the M door sills, the glove box light, door lock pins, and extra line of stitching. Mine doesn't have any of it. There are wires in the glove box where the light would be, so maybe there is a possibility of still adding one. I'm so used to not using the glove box anyway, since it was quite a reach in my previous x5 from the driver's seat. There was mention of the back of the headrests having fabric as one of the changes, but mine do not.

I'm pretty upset about the door sills, however I do prefer not having the door lock pins.

That just doesn’t sound premium at all for a BMW. I would be back with the dealer insisting either they put the light in as was intended free of charge or they fit a blanking plate to close it off properly. If the wires are there it can only be a few$ for the fitting.

The other items, yes they change spec from time to time and not always for the better but the way they seem to be finishing off the glovebox is just pure shoddy.

Not sure about the OP, but I honestly would prefer not to have lock pins. The only function they have is a visual indicator that the door is unlocked. I'd much prefer a cleaner look and not have it there.

I picked up my new xDrive 25e yesterday (01 Sep 23) - it is the MSport model

• no glove box light.. just a hole (attached)
• no MSport door sills (none at all actually)

Rather miffed by the exclusion of both.

Do we have anywhere in the UK we can source parts for these two things and is there anywhere that BMW have identified and made comment to these changes, officially?

Thanks,
Tippy.

I saw your picture and immediately noticed that the window glass marking were a little different as well. (edit the driver's side window glass)

Took your picture and reversed it to compare to mine.

Both were still manufactured by Asahi Glass Co. Japan(AGC), but I wonder what the extra marking on your glass means...

Maybe related to Head Up Display? I know they need a special coating on the windshield.

Doubtful in this case, I think that’s the side window.

After a few minutes of googling, seems it’s a relatively new standard for the Indian market. The Bureau of Indian Standards has mandated that any automotive glass on cars imported into or assembled in India must have this mark (and follow the appropriate standards obviously).

I’m guessing earlier production X1’s may not have had the marking either because they weren’t certified at the time, and/or because the X1 had not released for sale in India yet.

It’s a personal preference at the end of the day. I like the M stylings and aggressive/sporty looks for my iX1. So I definitely prefer having the door pins. That being said, I changed the original door pins for the M door pins, removed the chrome M badges and added the black M badges, will order the M35i front splitter, and currently awaiting delivery of the BMW 872M rims.

With the removal of the glove box light, I’m wondering if they also removed the light in the trunk by the pocket area on the right side (see image)

I can confirm light in the trunk/boot is still present! That would have been truely a poor show by BMW if they’d removed that!

And I’m curious if they have removed the footwell lights front and rear, also the vanity mirror lights over the sun visors.

This isn’t surprising, they seem to be stripping the M-Sport at the moment. Give it another six months and you’ll be lucky if it comes with a steering wheel.

iX1 M Sport - missing details

Took delivery of new iX1 on 1st Sept. No glove box light (not even a blanking plate), ‘pop up’ door pins or M door sill plates. Not bothered about door pins or M door sills but went into dealer to ask about missing glove box light. Following their investigation, I was told this item was deleted from the iX1 build programme and sent me a copy of BMW internal build detail showing this. However, as it happens they have another new iX1 M Sport just delivered in the showroom, which yes, you’ve guessed it, has all of the 3 items I mention above??

Asked dealer about this - had no response or explanation of course. In their defence, I think they’re kept in the dark as much as the rest of us. Shocking really.

Can you share with us the production note from BMW internal?! I’m Really curious!
My guess is the other one has been produced before July (you can easily check this grabbing a pic of the aforementioned ix1’s vin and inputing it in whatever vin decoder you want.)
Also, let us know if you are going to ask your dealer to order and buy the sills free of charge.

My M sport is due to be built in November. I want both the glove box light and sill plates. If missing, I will ask my dealer to fit them before delivery, even if there is a cost (providing it is reasonable). Not ideal and they were standard when I ordered the car back in March. Not happy if this is the case.

Missing parts on M Sport

Like you, I have ordered M Sport door sill plates for my X1, which was completed on September 8th. These parts are coming from Germany.

Installing the missing glove box light might be a much greater challenge. I examined a July production X1 which was displayed in my dealer's showroom. Looking through the black hole at the back of the glove box, I could not see or feel any loose wires. The Parts guy told me that it was most likely that BMW would have modified the wiring harness from July production onwards, making the addition of a glove box light very difficult .
