Question on Tier 1 Gas in USA
Anyone in the USA regularly get their gas at a tier 1 gas station? If so, why is tier 1 gas important? If you don’t use Tier 1, how come?
In other words, I,m wondering how important using tier 1 gas really is, or is it enough to ensure that only premium gas is used with minimum octane being 91, but premium in USA is typically 93 octane …. Thanks for your input guys, I just took delivery of my new X1 and haven’t had to tank up yet, but trying to “do the right thing” |

I've been going to Sam's Club for many years; it's right around the corner from my house, and 93 octane is frequently the same price as 87 octane at other local gas stations. So I fill up there almost exclusively.
I don't believe Sam's Club qualifies as Tier 1; and I've never had any issue with any car I've had while taking it there. |

I'm car broke after purchasing the x1 and have been using tier 4 gas. I can only hope there is no long term damage to the transmission or windshield wipers by using inferior gasoline.

Why? There’s no material benefit if your car only requires 91. Just a waste of $$. I wish Sams Club had 91. Most gas stations here have 87, 89 and 93.

Not so much now, but when I had my e90 I could’ve run stage 2 on my tune and got way more power out of it. Didn’t want to bother with octane booster, and race gas here is almost non existent since our track closed years ago.

Per the owners manual you can even fill up with 87 and be just fine. I owned a x5 g series for over 3 years about 20k miles using 89 without a single issue.
I will fill up the x1 with 89 as that is a good medium between 91 and 87

After all these months, how has the 89 mid grade gas been? Heard knocking? Premium here is about $5.149/gallon.

No issues at all. Save yourself money and fill up with 89
