Hi,

I just wonder if somebody else is thinking of mounting aftermarket wheels on their new X1?

Have anybody seen pictures of an U11 X1 with 20" aftermarket wheel?

I have an IX1 in order and have bought 20" glossy black wheels with low offset. So they will stick out some more than oem wheels.

The specs is:

Front: 8,5" ET40
Rear: 9" ET35

I have not decided if I will go for a wider rear tyre. So I bought two different dimensions for the rear, 245/40-20 and 275/35-20. I have to test on the car which will fit the best. Since this is a EV I have to think about the extra consumption the wide rears will give as well. My IX1 waiting for shipment at the port here in Norway, so hoping for delivery soon

Finally my IX1 arrived and I couldn't wait, so I test fitted my summer wheels at the workshop. It's still snow here in Norway, so I have to wait two month for driving on them.
Wheels are still within the fenders

ok, i hope what I’m about to tell doesn’t mess you up. the wheels you got are (front) 13mm more aggressive (will stock out 13mm more) and (rear) 24mm more aggressive. front may be ok but rear will stick out way too much and look uneven front to rear.

I know the numbers and I have measured an IX1 at my local dealer.

In the rear with 20" original wheels, it is 25mm to the fender flare.

The front will be ok and not uneven. But at the same time, I'm really hoping it will look good when installed.

The IX1 is even lower than a X1 with M-Sport. So IX1 have some more room to the fender flare because of more negative camber.

The total height of the X1 models:
X1 non Adaptive M sport suspension 1642mm
X1 Adaptive M sport suspension 1630mm
IX1 Adaptive M sport suspension (standard) 1616mm

Why not just get the standard 20's, sorry but in my opinion they are much nicer than those. if you really must have them sticking out, never could understand that myself, then just get some spacers.

I’m looking at getting some aftermarket wheels at some point, but haven’t picked a specific one yet. 20” wheels are tempting, but 19” would be way more practical for me. On my previous cars I’ve always run an aggressive fitment, where the lip of the rim sat nearly flush with the fender. Since this is my first SUV, I’ll have to do a lot more research before I can determine the proper offset for the look I want.

The design of the original 20s is ok, but I like a simpler design. And since i have ordered my car in Frozen pure grey with all details in gloss black, I think it will suit glossy black rims.
BMW only deliver glossy black rims for winter in 19".
And yes, the stance of the car is much nicer when the wheels fill the wheel arches.

The other unfortunate thing with simpler designs is it exposes the brake discs and calipers. Although the ones on the X1 work fine they are somewhat small with single pot calipers and aren't the most visually appealing. Decent sized discs and multi pot calipers look great on open wheel designs, I think I prefer to hide mine behind some nicely designed wheels. I think the M35i version will be a different thing altogether.

They have the rough cast and shiny silver painted appearance of cheap after-market refurbished calipers, IMHO.

Does anyone else with a mild hybrid X1 find the brake pedal feel somewhat inconsistent? I prefer keen brakes and during recuperation/regeneration the brakes feel strong enough but at lower speeds the brake pedal travel is long/soft and braking effectiveness feels somewhat inadequate. At the moment I find the brakes hard to modulate at low speeds, they have a very binary (on/off) feel to them.

I understand that blending hydraulic braking with drivetrain braking is difficult to do and I get the feeling that BMW have toned down the hydraulic braking so that drivers don't brake too sharply when the ISG is recuperating the battery.

I was looking at this the other day and tend to agree, I'm somewhat tempted to paint the calipers black just so the don't stand out.

I have the stock BMW 18 inch wheels, are there any other OEM BMW styles (prefer black) that will fit 2023 x1.

my CA forgot to add the wheel lock option($115) to my build I specifically wrote it down along with everything else when I went to confirm the options and color with them just a few days ago. now I can't add anything because it has entered production process.

how much will it cost to buy those BMW wheel locks after the X1 arrives in a couple of months? can I insist that they install the wheel locks for $115, which is the price if it's included in the build? they are they ones who forgot to add it.

The dealer is the only one who can answer that question. I’d talk to them and see if they will fix their mistakes. If not, there are plenty of aftermarket wheel locks of similar quality or better.

Wheel locks are the biggest scam going. There’s 0 chance wheel locks will prevent your wheels from being stolen.
