Checked one right before booking the X1 23d and I wasn't sold on the rear integration as well. And with no diesel option available in Ireland it quicky came of the options chart for me.

I actually test drove the 18d as 23d was not available at the dealer and to my surprise it didn't feel underpowered at all. I know it was a short drive but I loved it and would have gone for it if they would have offered xdrive option with 18d.

I have the 18d as rarely get snow here (none this year) so AWD not that important and I can concur, I would add that it’s the best all round engine I have owned. Average mpg over 4500 miles is 58 (best trip 70mpg) and plenty punchy enough.
