Advice needed - headliner change!

Do you think it's possible to change the headliner in a BMW authorized service center without any issues?

I ordered a BMW X1 with an anthracite headliner, but it was delivered with a white one instead. Since changing the headliner involves not only replacing the fabric but also dealing with electronics and airbag buttons, I'm concerned about whether everything will be done as effectively as it would have been at the factory.

Has anyone else had a similar experience or know more about this process?

Could you post a pic of the white headliner… it was not an option for me

I'm by no means an expert, or even a mechanic, but I've done a couple of headliners on BMWs in the past.

It's not too complicated to change the headliner in a BMW unless they changed the way they do things recently. The fabric is on a semi rigid backing and comes out all in one piece. The hardest part is usually removing or installing it without making a crease, but this is much easier on a wagon or SUV since it has a large hatch. The airbag buttons are usually just covers that pry off that hide a screw underneath, the actual airbags are not usually integrated into the covers themselves.

The only potential trouble areas I see are: The moonroof sliding fabric cover, the B pillars, and changing out any other parts to black such as seat belt guides and all the other misc trim.

I have changed headliners before but not on a BMW. I agree its straightforward but is easy to mark and crease on installation if you are not careful (and that may ruin it before you start). You do need patience to do this. Never done one involving a pano or moon roof before though - this is an additional level of complication.

I also agree FlashMonkey929 above, usually trim around the headliners will need to be replaced as well. I've not seen an X1 with any other colour than a black headliner but I assume in addition to the items suggested above, things like the switches on the roof etc will need to be changed as well as I assume, on your version, they are a light colour and not black? If that is the case, this could work out to be an expensive exercise?

Good luck.

Why isn't the dealer taking care of this, since they messed up the order?

Right, per Tex's post above...why isn't the dealer looking after this since it's obviously an error in delivery

I think he’s worried about any issues occurring if the dealer does it, as he says in the first sentence at the BMW service centre.

Then you reject delivery and make them fix or replace.

I'll take your white liner unless you also have beige? :-)

Hope nobody opens a thread for "What colour is your headliner?"
Thanks! If you start a poll I prefer white

The dealer is doing it, not me :-)
I waiting everything to be done to take the car from the dealership. They do have excellent customer service, and doing their best, just it does take some time

It is an option in Austria. I went for the X line model and the standard headliner is in white or Oyster :-), but for EUR 266,70 the headliner can be changed into anthracite, which is a standard interior colour for the M sport line.
No roof window chosen.

Thanks for the inputs, but indeed, 'anthracite' is an official name in the BMW X1 configurator in Austria

This will be done by the dealership as it was not in compliance with our order, and I am still waiting to be done. Thankfully, no roof window, so it should make their life easier. They do have a good customer service, doing their best to make things right and I am looking forward to pick up the car (hopefully) soon.
Just hope it will be done as perfect as it would be in factory.

It is possible, but the change of headliner colour is an extra equipment. See my configuration: https://configure.bmw.at/de_AT/configid/1e7qpyig
I hope you can open it!

Mercedes, Volvo, Audi/VW/Lexus/Mazda/JLR etc in the UK at this price range will let you have any colour you like as long as it is "black" or "anthracite". AAAAGGGGHHHHHH!
GLA is the worst it is positively claustrophobic in the back and shows the dandruff something awful.
The X1 eucalyptus trim is icing on the cake.

What colour is the outside and seats on yours BMWLoverX1? (only BMWLoverX1 answer please)
