For the smaller battery and slower battery charging of the BMW PHEV it doesn't seem that charging to 100% causes much of an issue.

For us we were going to 90% before winter now 95% and more often 100%. I doubt the change will have much of an effect going forwards to be honest. The battery manages its charging and max charging within the software just enjoy the car for us.

Hi guys,

my x1 used to display ~84km with 95% and nowadays only displays ~68km. I live in portugal, and we are currently experiencing min 11º and max 20º celsius, although he is charged during the night, outside. Is it the same for you? it's because of the cold? it's quite a drop..

Entirely normal, there is another thread with many saying the same. We are loosing as much as 15miles easily on a similar charge than in the middle of summer.

Why well for us its been -8º celsius, on some days, that means the batter is cold, the heaters are on, its dark and the lights are on, heated seat, steering wheel and maybe rear window demister all take power directly from the battery. The result is a significantly lower range in the winter months.

Ways to reduce it are pre-heat/condition the car before you leave so the battery and car are ready for the journey, even 10 minutes makes a difference. As the weather improves so will the range again.

I've heard about some chain issues with PHEV X1 (around 80000 kms) from BMW technician and he was discouraging me from buying it, telling me mild-hybrid is better option. Basically he said that BMW PHEV design is not optimal, as electronics can wake up cold engine any time and rev it up to high revs. Any engine issues you've encountered?

Dude stop stating that around in every possible PHEV topic...somebody told you about chain issues with X1...
First of all this is mostly US based forum - one of the first PHEV here was mine and i drive alot compared to average for my contry(and its around 29 000 where 12k is on ICE) and 80 000 kms a year is alot of driving unless its a taxi.
Also considering that that car mostly is in electric drive 80 000kms on ICE is absurdly alot.

Lets imagine there are issues - the car have 5 years and 150 000kms factory warranty...so unless you drive 100 000km in a year what the issue?

All M cars have bearing issues - so ?All Diesel engines have chain issues after 100k km and they need to be replaced...

Also - I thought your BMW tech friend said he can't even remember if it was an X1.

Nobody has responded to the affirmative to all your posts - so far makes me think there is no issue.

What does it mean electric top speed is 140 km/h. Does it mean it always use petrol engine only above that? Or electric motor can still aid the petrol engine in those speeds?

Max speed in electric only mode is 140 kmh, it will start the petrol engine to go faster normally.

Use the build in GPS for the car to decide what power source to use in hybrid mode.
Indeed multi stops can help, when coming back to your starting point without an intermediate charge.

PHEV batteries normally take a 100% charge better due slower charging.
Worst is to have it sit at 100% for a long time. Use it.

But does it still use also electric motor above 140 (in tandem with petrol)? I guess so, to keep acceleration figures etc.

If you going on motorway in electric mode and reach 140Km, in my case is between 142 and 144Km/h, it doesn't go further. I have pads, so the trick is to shift gear with pads up or down and the ICE start up, if you are uphill or in a big acceleration demand will use both engines, if you are coasting at 150Km or so will use the ICE mostly, when you get back to lower then 140km will use the electric engine only again.

I usually change to S mode and fix the 7th Gear so the car can go from as low as 80Km-90Km to the max speed (around 208Km) and if you speed up, it will use the electric motor to help with the torque, this way you can minimize the use of petrol and you have a great acceleration all the time, the instant consumption never goes over 13l per 100Km. It's an X1 30E.
