So.. can anyone share how it feels? I have ordered my X1 but can still do some adjustments to the order, this is the only feature I am torn about.

I have the active seats on driver and passenger seat. If I have to be honest I would skip this option if I could choose again. Personally I don't like the feeling in my lower back. I really advise to do a test drive with this option to figure out if you like it or not.

Surely even if you don’t like the massage part for £200 just the lumbar support is worth thr money?

Lumbar support is quite a personal thing. A friend is a chiropractor and they said it shouldn’t be used normally it can make things worse for your back. I have it on mine and it’s not moved it’s at the default, the seat is fab.

Not having lumbar support in my car has actually improved my posture a bit. I admittedly have horrible posture normally, but if I don't sit properly with my back straight in the X1 in the sport seats it quickly becomes uncomfortable for my lower back. It's pretty much forcing me to sit a bit straighter, which in my case is a blessing in disguise.

Well that’s a good point, my X3 hasn’t got lumbar and the seats are great SUVs generally allow gor great seating position for your back, the base of the spine should not be at too much of an angle below the knees. I had a terrible back in my 30s but 20 years later it’s much better based on management, massage and having the right kind of seats and posture

after living with my new X1's massage seats for a week, I have just 4 comments so far:

1. yes, it's totally worth the money. in the US, it comes with the $450 Active Seat with Lumbar option. both front seats have lumbar and massage functions now

2. like my massage seat at home, I'll probably use it frequently in the beginning. in a few weeks/months, usage will likely drop to once every couple of months until I forget that it's there

4. wish the massaging function can come on randomly while I drive to keep me alert and awake during long 6 to 8- hour drives

5. would be nice if the upper back also gets massaged (the red area in the pic below)

The passenger seat has it too? I ordered it but I thought it was only driver side.

in the US, Active Seats with Lumbar Supports include massaging and lumbar functions for driver and passenger seats, so the $450 option is actually quite reasonable. (compared to $300 for remote engine start, or $1700 for Driving Assistance Pro)

notice the first line that says "Tips for lumbar support"? when I first saw that, I thought to myself "oh, wait, I don't have any one dollar bills to tip the massage lady"... major Freudian Slip on my part?

I have assigned it to come on automatically with my 'Relax' driving mode.

Has anyone taken delivery of a car without the Active seats option? Just trying to confirm whether massage seats are included as standard or if I need to spec active seats. I think massage is probably standard as it's on both front seats, active seats only mentioned driver seats.

The BMW configurator is that vague it's actually making me think twice about my order now as I've no idea what spec is or isn't included, and the dealership haven't got a clue either.

Active seats are the massage seats and it’s only on the drivers seats, they are ok and do work but they are a bit of a gimmick. Also we have found that sometimes when you turn them off they don’t default back to the default place and leave the seats uncomfortable. Only way to get the seat back then is to press the memory seat button to get things back to how you set it.

If that's the case then the pricing guide info is misleading as there's an option to get the active seats on both front seats.

451 Active Driver Seat incl. Lumbar Support
455 Active Front Seats incl. Lumbar Support

I don't believe so. I have a newly delivered 23 X1 and did not include the active seat option. I did include almost all other available options like premium package, driving assist pro, etc. I have the xline trim with sport seats. I don't have the Relax driving mode or massaging seats. I'm in the US.

Annoying as it says "Active seats for Driver and Passenger" and references Lumbar support and Massage function here - https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/all-models/...ighlights.html

Why's it so hard to get accurate information on these packs, surely they'd want it to be as accurate as possible so customers know what they're buying.

We think the lumbar support is just “okay”. For me, it doesn’t lessen back fatigue on long drives - and as another poster mentioned - when it stops, it leaves the lumbar support in an awkward position, and you need to press your memory seat button to return to your normal seat setting.
It would have been MUCH better for me if the seat bottom/squab had the massage feature as it is my thighs/butt that get sore on long drives - not my back.

Seems to work just fine on my x1m35 with active sears.
