My X1 replacement is coming with Veganza instead of Sensatec. Genius says it's their new upgraded upholstery. Is anyone familiar with this new material? I'm excited to compare it to the Sensatec.

Guess that explains why you can only choose black interior option on the configurator right now.

Am i on the only one who see it as “Vaginza” with BMW offering exclusive whale vagina leather? Sorta like that crazy Russian SUV…

You can find it on the 7 series (gas only) and given how that's been selling, you should be able to find those on the lot

As of tonight, the other color options (e.g. Oyster) are available on the configuration for Veganza.

I received an official reply from BMW where they have confirmed that 'Veganza' material is more superior in quality and softer than ongoing 'Sensatec'.

We have just changed the name as part of our "Green Washing" policy and to make it sound less like toothpaste and more like something you could eat (please don't though!). Our policy is to make it crappier and pursuade everyone to opt for expensive leather which we have increased the price of. We are also doing the same, for the same reasons, with the standard 866 wheels on the U11-X-Line with "superior quality premier professional" plastic imitation diamond cut hub caps just like the old day."

Just go for the cloth upholstry if you can. Mercedes have been doing it successfully for years.
However one good point I must give them credit for is like no other main stream car maker they continue to offer "Oyster" and at the same price. That and X-Drive are the main reason I continue to buy them.
You do realize the US didn’t get anything except Sensatec and Alcantara for textures right? Leather or cloth were not options for us at all. And personally I like the Sensatec. In hot climates it’s barely different in feel to leather. It seems to me that in order to improve the overall perception of the U11 cost cutting was necessary in some areas to keep their entry level vehicle within grasp of their target customer.

I'll tell you that I like Sensatec better than Vernasca, which is supposed to be a mid-tier leather. It's softer, more comfortable, and will be more durable over time. Who cares if it's not "real" leather at this point?

I will support any initiative which helps in reducing animal content specially when the vegan products (or artificial in your terms) are designed to be almost similar in properties as that of leather.

and I have read good reviews of their vegan materials and personally felt great during test drive.

has anyone ever figured out if the steering wheel is made of real leather or some sort of synthetic leather-like material? (asking for my co-worker who really wants to get the X1 after seeing mine for the last couple of months, but she wants a 99% animal skin free interior if possible) THanks!

I will forward the recommendation to her! If she buys it, that means I'll get to drive it frequently! (since she borrows my X1 frequently) Win-Win-Win! (for her, me and all the animals!)

It's really a very nice upgrade. It's softer and smoother. It doesn't look all that different though.

Yes, I would agree with your observations: having seen a July production X1 yesterday, the Veganza is a definite upgrade to SensaTec or the typical BMW Dakota/Vernasca leather

Veganza feels smoother and softer than SensaTec or Dakota.
Perhaps Veganza is not quite as glossy looking as SensaTec, nor does it feel plastic like. All good !!
