Pros and cons of ordering last of MY 2023 vs waiting for MY 2024
My local dealer contacted me over the weekend and said they had some incoming vehicles that were still customizable. There probably won't be any option differences in 2024. I realize there may be a slight cost increase on the MY 2024 vehicles but I'm a little hesitant to order at the very end of the MY 2023 since it will be technically a year old vehicle when it's eventually delivered.
Any thoughts on the pros and cons? |

If you only keep your car a few years, and you buy, as you stated, I'd probably wait for a '24, because in 3-4 years, the resale value of a '23 will be different than a '24, regardless of the actual in-service date. Conversely, if you keep your car a longer period of time, I'd get the car ASAP because there won't be as much difference in, say, 8 years; and I would not think there will be significant differences in the '24 MY. In fact, since the car was introduced, addl options have been added (active seats; active safety systems; addl colors). |

Get the '23 if you have plans on keeping 4+ years as Tex has noted. Enjoy the car now vs late fall...also, you might dodge ID9 lol...

This is like a crystal ball thread, last year people were asking the same question on the X3, some said go for it others said wait any get the MY23.
Well BMW decided to remove not add things so some lighting on the dash and door pockets and more for example was removed, so as I say careful what you wish for. If you want ID9 wait, if you are happy with ID8 go grab a 23. |

I'm aware of 3 changes [1 addition, 1 removal and 1 modification]
Addition of 5g Esim, removal of sill plates from front doors, and Veganza seats now instead of Sensatec. Trying to get a list of possible changes, if I get will keep you posted. |

I also saw some changes in the configurator in Greece from July 1st. Mine is a build of July 6th so i think i will have these changes when it arrives:
-At the doors there was a line with stiches that now it is plain -They removed all the lock indicator pins from all the doors -At the front mask, when you don't have AR navigation, the point is painted black instead of being painted like the rest of the car. I think they made it to have a uniform look either you have the camera there either not. |

Probably, it would be a good idea to get the details from him. |

1.) Veganza seats ( which is a welcome change due to its more premium & soft material). 2.) Personal 5G eSim in Infotainment unit. (again a welcome addition) 3.) Improved rear headrest design (possibly aesthics change) 3.) Removal of light from glove box section. 4.) Removal of 'BMW' written sill plates from front doors. 5.) Dual stiching pattern modified to single (or partition less pattern) on the inside of front doors. Last edited by vikas; 07-20-2023 at 03:45 AM.. |

FYI I heard from 2 dealers that 24 model year production will start in November, which matches up with what others have been saying. So you’re probably looking at January for a 24.

Thanks. Hard to believe the production line will have a 3-month gap between the end of MY23 production and the start of MY24 production especially since it's basically the same model bar a few tweaks.

Timeline for idrive 9 has always been November 2023 production. I suspect the timing is related—when bmw announced all 2024 x1s would have idrive 9 (as part of the m35 announcement), I wondered if they were going to ship idrive 9 early. Seems not… who knows though. Have to wonder how good of shape idrive 9 will be in, even in November. I initially wanted to wait for it, now glad I did not—there is a reason they aren’t putting it in flagship models for another year or two.

id9 it’s quicker and better laid out than id8 BUT as people have mentioned it may have the odd bug however as does id8. Mine has now settled down and it all works apart from my trips on my app.
I wouldn’t wait one way or the other, just order and as 24my doesn’t have anything to mark it out as worth waiting for that’s another reason to just get on with it… |
