X1 M35i Spare Tire?

Hi guys, for M35i owners - can someone confirm if the regular X1 spare tire would fit on the M35i? I thought I saw somewhere that it won't due to our larger brake system. If so, does anyone know if there's an aftermarket spare for us? I occasionally do long drives and I"m not comfortable driving with just a flat kit they gave us. It sucks we don't get one for this car!

what some folks did on the previous model without spare tire is found one to fit the rear. If a front goes, swap a rear for front and put the spare on the back. with the M brakes it is difficult to find a spare that will fit in storage and fit over them

Good luck

If you’re physically able, a patch kit and a battery powered compressor is usually faster for me rather than changing a spare.

I had the same issue regarding a spare tire for the X1 M35 and was told to check the Modern Spare web site. I called them and was told that their spare would fit over the larger calipers and the 19 inch size of the M35i tires.

No spare tire for 2024 BMW X1 M35i???????

I just purchased a new 2024 BMW X1 M35i and was never told there was no spare tire? How can this be???? I realize BMW's model is to get you to purchase everything as an add on, but no spare tire?????

Do I have to find one on my own? I've got to say this has put a serious dent in my faith in BMW going forward.

Many BMW's have not come with a spare tire in years. It seems hit or miss depending on the model. With the X1, previously depended on the market the X1 was sold in, and in the US it used to have a spare (my 9/22 production model came with a spare). I personally took out the spare and replaced it with a compressor and patch kit, as it's quicker for me than jacking up the car and replacing the wheel.

I assume that the patch kit only works if it's a nail puncture through the tire tread... not when it's through the tire's sidewall?

I have also thought about ditching my X1 spare tire, except when going on longer trips.

Correct. Patch/plugs are not recommended for sidewall punctures. In all my nearly 30 years of driving I’ve never punctured or otherwise damaged a sidewall though (except a mishap on a track).

It should be the same tire diameter, rim size doesn’t matter

Funny, most of my flats have been shoulder punctures. Just where you can’t plug/patch them.

BRAUMACH have a spare wheel kit, that fits over the 20 inch wheels with RED calipers and fits perfectly under the rear lid compartment in trunk space./

Never told? A 2 minute review of the standard equipment list and you would have discovered this right away. You spend $50K on a purchase and you don't even do your own homework; you expect the salesman to tell you everything? Take some personal responsibility.

I beg to differ. An auto purchase is complicated and overwhelming enough and the customer should not be faulted for overlooking something that has historically been basic equipment...... In other words, if the vehicle is not equipped with run-flats, there should always be some sort of spare.....Let's suppose if the vehicle had been missing its gas cap, would you blame the customer for not having done his or her homework?
Sales people would be wise to show customers the cargo space and make a point that there is no spare. It's a small customer-service consideration and for the customer, It is kind of a big deal.

In other words, look what happens when you "assume".... I absolutely blame the customer for not doing his or her homework. Your gas cap analogy is wrong. Many Fords come with capless gas tanks; that is how they are sold. YOUR bad example would be analogous if the car was supposed to come with a spare but was missing.

As someone else said, BMW has deleted spare tires for years. This is my 2nd BMW; I specifically looked whether or not there was a spare when I bought my 328 in 2015, and my '23 X1.

You think a sales person should sit down with the customer and go thru a list of all the features a car doesn't come with? Vented seats; leather; power sunshades; matrix headlights. Where would it end? You are rationalizing,

Does anyone here actually have a spare tire they bought from ModernSpare and if so can confirm it fits in our X1 M35i trunk? Thanks.

They are required to supply an alternative to spare tire, yes. That's why it comes with a mobility kit that includes fix-a-flat, as well as roadside assistance to cover anything more than a puncture.

I also think it's not a good idea to have the salesperson at the dealership be your sole base of knowledge when buying a car. In my experience I tend to know more about past, present, and future models than the salespeople. Remember, their priority is to sell a car. They only memorize as much as they need to, any of them that does more than that is a rarity.

I tend to agree. When I ordered mine a spare was listed as included and it was not clear that upgrading to the large calipers and 19” wheels would cause the car to not come with a spare. I didn’t make a big deal about it but had I known that ModernSpare at the time I may have pushed back and requested the $500 in a discount to purchase the spare.

Just to piggyback on TZB's recent post...has anyone bought the Modern Spare?

I like the kit, but I really wanna know if it fits in M35 under cargo area. I don't want to get it if I have to have it sitting above it. I'd rather not order that Tesla spare from Australia.
