What I Like/Dislike
So after 3 months of ownership, I am thrilled overall with my car. Other than the engine which is an absolute jewel, here are the things I love:
1. Brakes - holy moly, touch the brakes and they bite. Good stuff. 2. Suspension - so solid. My E46 just felt loose after driving the 335. 3. Steering wheel. Oh man, Acura could learn so much from BMW's nice, thick steering wheel. The Acura Type S my parents just got - steering wheel feels so cheap. Same skinny/cheap feeling on our new MDX too. 4. Exhaust sound. I have hi-flow downpipes now and with the golf tee mod, I am really liking the sound. I wish it was just 15 to 20% louder as I do enjoy the look-at-me factor (yes, I am that vain). 5. Sport seats. I need not say anything more. 6. Leatherette. Every normal person outside of BMW calls this shiet vinyl. Actually I think it feels really good. And will look the same in 100 years. Things I don't like so much: 7. Lack of comfort access - combination of being cheap and buying a car from stock. I wish I had this option. Too bad it's not standard like the Infiniti G's. 8. Exterior Styling. I've been waiting for the look to grow on me. Quite honestly, it hasn't. I really dislike the front. I like the sides and the rear, but not the front. For me, the E46 M3 was (and still is) beautiful and the pinnacle of great BMW design. The new BMW still looks very modern, but not a lot of drool factor for me for some reason. 9. Interior Styling. Holy fook, it's still ugly. But I guess BMW has always gone with the spartan look. Our new MDX seems to have way too many buttons, but the interior looks amazing. The new TL-S looks great too. 10. Feels heavy. So even though the suspension feels great overall, the car doesn't feel as tossable as the old 330ci. Tremendous weight difference for sure, especially with the xi hardware now. Would be interested to see if the 335xi feels as good on the track as the old 330ci. 11. Leatherette. I'm afraid of the hot summer months. In the hot weather in September, it felt just a tad more hot than the leather did on my 330ci. I hope it's not too bad in the peak of summer after the car's been sitting outside. So, if I could go back in time to August when I was about to sign on the dotted line, would I do it again? You bet. Except with the Comfort Access option. |

I have a pretty much loaded vert so I agree with all your likes and only agree with the heavy aspect of your dislikes. Is yours a coupe or sedan?
BMW lacks behind Audi in interior styling but I learnt from my last Audi (A6) that you can't go wrong with black and burl walnut, so I repeated that with my vert and it works out nicer than I had expected. Good thing is that the solar reflect leather stays relatively cool under direct sun (the front of the seat is at least 10C cooler than the back) and that's a big plus. I am not crazy about the chrome trim on the steering wheel and the long shift knob so I bought the M versions. Just waiting to have some spare time (hopefully over Christmas) to install them. Again, I have M-Sport option in my 530Xi and I love the super thick M steering wheel. It's addictive. I only wish I had ordered blue tooth. I love that feature in my 530Xi. It uploads my phone book automatically and I can make hands free calls via iDrive. Haven't tried active steering. Wonder whether it is worthwhile.

mine fully loaded as well. things I don't like are:
1) long steering angle at slow speeds 2) slow 90 deg turn just doesn't feel right 3) interior quality ie mediocre craftsmanship |

Regrets, I have a few. Not opting for comfort access or 19-inch rims are key among them.
The car is not as throw-you-back-in-the-seat fast as I expected and the dash could be described as plain (hence the need to get iDrive). It's a looker but in a subtle way. Not wild about the rear end. Three things really stand out: It is so freaking quiet, the brakes are so freaking grabby and it is a marvel how so much power could be so refined. The little touches -- seatbelt assist, side mirror folding down in reverse, pushbutton start, pathway lighting, three-click blinkers -- are huge. Then there's the steptronic ... Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. |

I still don't see the value in the Premium package. I also thought $3K for the iDrive was way too much. |

At time of my purchase, premium package has sunroof, auto dimming mirror (+ power folding side mirrors), LOGIC7 sound system, and electric seats with memory. I won't say it's a value package, just some plus.

The leatherette gets really hot if you parked under the sun for even half a day. Not a big problem for myself since I rarely weat shorts. Friends and girlfriend had problems when they got in without realizing the seats were hot..
Another problem is it doesn't breath, so if you are sweaty, it doesn't feel so great sitting on it even when you are wearing long pants.

Though leatherette gets hot, it's not like leather remains relatively cool. They are both hot like hell in my own experience. After few hours of direct sunlight, I could not sit on both even with long pants.

I love the RESIDUAL HEAT feature, the automatic wipers, and auto heat/AC temperature control ... needles to say that it's an absolute pleasure to drive this car (even in snow ...) ... NO COMPLAINTS

Well the rain sensor and the climate control on my E46 is useless! I dun expected there will be any improvement on the E90/92.

You're right: Rain sensor for the most part doesn't work as advertised. Climate control is largely effective but I never could figure out how dual climate control could work in such a confined space.

On the minus side:
B and C pillars quite wide. You can easily not see another car when merging.

I agree on the OP's note on the handling feel of the E90 vs the E46. My E46 definitely felt more tossable.
Overall tho, I am really happy with the 335. The only big disappointment so far are the RFTs. |
