DIY oem CF M Performance mirrors
time: approx. 30 minutes Difficulty: easy Tools needed: trim removal tools T10 torx long nose pliers towel & painters tape 1) use a small trim tool to lift the corner of the mirror (just enough to slip your fingers in there) 2) with your fingers in...slowly and gently pull the mirror cap off (you shouldn't have to use much force. Use the same amount of force as you would rip a shipping cardboard box) 3) move your mirror position down (facing the ground) 4) now use the wider trim tool and slip inside the housing, then pry the mirror glass off (again, you shouldn't have to use much force. Same energy as prying out a nail). There's two clips on top and two clips at bottom. Ones you pry the top loose, you can wiggle the bottom off. 4a) you can use a towel and tape to hold the mirror glass 5) test fit your CF mirrors, the bottom should go in first. 6) remove the tabs with the long nose plier (this is where the new screws go into). bent it and pull it out with the pliers. 7) now install the cf mirrors with the screws/washers (t10 torx) 8) the reinstall the glass just line it up and press in by corner to corner (push left upper corner with right lower corner) Done Last edited by ska///235i; 07-03-2014 at 05:46 PM.. |

I just used this guide to install my IND body painted mirror caps and it was a life saver! I wanted to clarify a few points in case anyone else uses this. If you are installing ONLY the IND mirror caps (not the cf ones) you only need to perform steps 1 and 2. If you are installing the carbon fiber ones, then you have to do all steps as you have to screw those on. Do yourself a favor and get a trim remover tool I tried to do it at first without one and it hurt pretty badly! Another tip, as you're trying to pry the cap off, use your body and press up against the bottom of the sideview mirror while you pull the cap from the top.
Thanks OP for the guide. |
