Here's the details of the recall....

"BMW AG has determined that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain Model Year 2010 – 2012 BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series, 5 Series Gran Turismo, X3 SAV, X5 SAV, X6 SAV and Z4 Models. Our records indicate that you are the owner of a potentially affected vehicle.
Description of the Problem:
This recall involves the housing bolts of the variable camshaft timing (VANOS) adjustment unit. The bolt may possibly loosen over time and, under certain circumstances, may break. As a result, the reduced engine power “safe mode” may be activated. In rare cases, the engine cannot be started after switching off. In very rare cases, the engine could stall which lead to a crash

• If you notice a distinct change in engine running condition and hear increased engine noise
• If you notice a check engine warning light and a check control message that the reduced engine power “safe mode” is activated either immediately or at start-up of the next driving cycle"

It's not covered. The recall covers N55 motors only, the 335is uses the N54.

Dealership said its a 3-4 hour job, since the appointment was booked for a weekday I dropped the car off the day before, they gave me a loaner (X1 ) and picked it up the next day...

If one had sold their car, how would bmw notify the person of the recall . Is it up to the responsibility of the new owner to contact the dealership even its out of warranty?

Thanks

The recall notices were sent in March of this year so if the car was sold afterwards I don't think the new owner will know unless he/she calls the dealership or goes in for a service. Generally as soon as they scan the key they will inform that there is a recall and to schedule a day for it...

I had my car booked in for September 1st and was called by the dealership to say they didn't have enough parts to do it. Car is now booked in at the local bmw, I won't be returning to Edmonton bmw after this ordeal. Bavaria have been nothing but great here. Car will be going in on the 22.
