Chargepipe not covered by CPO warranty?

My chargepipe cracked this weekend after getting new plugs and oil change. I got it towed to the dealer and they are telling me that a sensor on the chargepipe is unplugged, therefore they arent warrantying it because it looks like someone unplugged it. They also are telling me that chargepipes arent a warrantable item. Does this make sense? I though cracked CP's were warranty items. The only reason I even went to the dealer was because my c-clip is non-existant.

They probably unplugged it while looking at the charge pipe. And what does the sensor have to do with the cheap ass plastic charge pipe cracking? As far as CPO goes I'm not 100% sure but it should be covered. Maybe other can chime in on that.

Garage List
Call and ask to talk to a manager or go to another dealer, charge pipes are covered and their reason for denying it is weak at best.

my car was out of warranty when mine broke, but the sensor was unplugged when the pipe cracked, it broke the clip for the sensor... That's horse shit from the stealership. should absolutely be covered.

99% of the time it will be on your undertray somewhere. get an extendable magnet and a flashlight, they're really hard to come by if you cant find it. I don't have one

The only sensor that attaches to the charge pipe is the MAP sensor... Wouldn't the car have some other issues if that wasn't plugged in?

At this point, I would just get a metal charge pipe and never worry about this problem again.

Unfortunately not, that is for the lower charge pipe. The one that connects the charge pipe to the throttle body is larger than that, and is only sold as part of the replacement OEM pipe.

Yes, the car would have other issues with the MAP sensor unplugged. its pretty common that when the charge pipe breaks and shifts as a result, the clip for the sensor breaks and it comes unplugged. Happened when my pipe broke, and got a MAP sensor code.

I talked to them again and they said its going to be covered under "goodwill" thankfully. Its just annoying having to argue with them over stuff like this.

Ah, ok, that's what I was thinking, but it sounds as though the dealer is trying to blame the fact that its unplugged for the actual crack... Shifty stealers trying everything to avoid giving away a cheap flimsy pipe that takes minutes to swap.

yes, I would say that's exactly what the dealership is trying to say. Or, that because the sensor is unplugged, they won't warranty it because they believe he unplugged it. But that's not how the pipe broke, and its impossible to unplug without taking the airbox off.

Op, glad they are covering it under goodwill. Doesn't make them right, but glad they are doing the work

It's nice they covered it but it will still be prone to cracking again in the future. You should consider an upgrade like the VRSF CP with OEM connectors. For under $200 you really can't beat it for peace of mind.

Keep your new stock CP for a rainy day if you need to go back to dealer and want to remain stock, my .02.

The same thing happened to me recently, and due to ridiculous OEM prices, I opted for the ER chargepipe with stock DV connection and haven't had a problem since. More durable too, especially if you're running a tune.

Same thing happened to me on my CPO. Charge pipe isn't covered, around $400 oem. Luckily, my go to bmw tech had a spare oem one lying around.
