After 10 years, my asphalt driveway has sunken so badly that I need to replace it. I've looked around at several options; pavers, concrete, rubber and stamped asphalt. I'm leaning toward the asphalt as it's the most affordable (~$7/sqft) for the durability, and let's the wife pick the color scheme (dark gray & red border).

Has anyone else done stamped/decorative asphalt?

Since you're redoing the driveway you may want to look into the cost of adding heat. Think prices have come down to where it's reasonable now.

I hadn't even thought about it, my driveway faces due south and rarely accumulates any snow & never ices. I've been using the same 30lb bucket of salt for the driveway for 5yrs now. Even the polar vortex didn't cause icing for me, of course the neighbor across the street had a 3" block of ice as a driveway for most of the winter.

I recently did pavers. Cost $6,500 for everything. I got a screaming deal though.

Tree roots have completely destroyed my driveway. I'll have to repave very soon.

We need a new drive way soon. Old one needs to be dug up, repaved and 3rd car space added. It's going to cost a fortune.

Yeah, my pricing includes removing existing, digging to proper 8" depth and expanding by about 1' on either side. Plus they'll have to cut a foot of the existing concrete walk out.

Just doing the asphalt is about 60% of the cost, the color & stamping is the remainder. I did find some other places cheaper, but I like the look of the color & stamp for half the prices of pavers.

My drive at the house are 1" river rock stones. Looks great, low maintenance, affordable and you can do it yourself.

I wish I had $ to coat the driveway concrete.
I need to do a new deck outside, and cheapest 12x6' was quoted over $3800. One I would like to have would cost over $7000.

I just bought a house with an 80x 15 ft gravel driveway that I can't wait to get paved. By the looks of it , that will not be happening soon.

Love pavers for the driveway. We might get our walkway done soon but the driveway is too pricey. It fits six cars and is currently concrete. Big bucks.

It is SO much easier to repair pavers (breaks, expansions, oil spills) then concrete.

No, I didn't do it at the time I upgraded my driveway from dirt. I did stamped/colored concrete and regret every time I sweep and see that they came back AFTER the stamp and a bit of curing to SAW stress lines into the concrete.

I just had a similar walk way in my building repaired. Approx 200 sq ft.

Also had the red brick. They removed each brick. Then correctly poured concrete and leveled it before replacing each old brick back. $2500 total cost.

Just had pavers done this past week. We have stamped concrete before. Down here in FL pavers are really the way to go. Like anything though they need to be maintained, sealed, etc. I don't know anything about stamped asphalt, that would never fly in almost any neighborhood down here. The problem with textured or stamped anything though is 5-10 years down the road if it fades, cracks, or just generally wears, there's no way to partially repair it without really looking bad. That was the problem with our stamped concrete - you can't ever refinish it the way it was originally because the color is brushed and worked in with the original top pour of the final layer. Some people try and repaint but it never looks good. With pavers you can just replace cracked or stained bricks as long as you have some extras

Ours was about $8,500 give or take. We sourced the pavers locally and paid about $2.75/sq. ft. It was a bit over 1,700 sq ft total (the visitors area to the left big enough for 2 cars and a basketball hoop) so about 50% materials, 50% labor.

Most of the work was demo and prep. Once they cleared the old driveway leveled everything and did footers around the perimeter, the actual laying of pavers was not more than a day's work for 2-3 guys.
