Engine Oil

Hi All,

My 335i already got 6K miles.... and i wanna change the engine oil, but contacted BMW service, she said need not to change unless there is one year or reached 20K miles.... is that true? or i need to change the oil at somewhere else?

yup, or u can pay for it at the dealer, so its better u change it somewhere else

I changed my oil at 5k and it was completely black. If you have the tools DIY otherwise expect to pay over $100 for your initial supplies. It eventually pays for itself in man points and chest hair

function before posting new threads on topics that have been covered HUNDREDS of previous times. Every possible question you have on oil has already been asked, so just

first.

And FWIW, the color of your oil has nothing to do with whether it needs to be changed or not.

people are crazy changing their oil every 4-5k miles. What's the point of synthetic oil then?

you CAN TAKE it to the DEALERSHIP, they will only charge you for the oil. At least that was what my SA offered me.

BTW, I have a little over 10K miles, and I haven't change it, but will do it soon.

My console tells me that my oil is low, so i think to myself wtf, its a new car dealer told me first oil change is in 10,000 miles (which i thought it was weird, I really don't care anyways cause its a lease) anyways so i call my dealer ask them why is my car telling me it need oil, does it need an oil change. They reply no it's normal the engine uses oil, just put a quart of oil whenever it ask and it will be fine. Well i still think its wrong i've never had a new car that u need to put oil once in a while. anyone had this problem. The car runs good no weird noises its just that stupid message, i don't know if dealer is lying or the car is acting up.

Oil change intervals for me: 5k miles

5k, 10k, 15k, 20k(dealer), 25k, 30k, 35k, and 40k miles(appointment tomorrow)
