MP3 CD Burning question

Well mp3 cd's work for me, except when I try to randomly select songs the cd skips and it wont play them. I can only play the first song then skip to the next track, that's the only way it works. Is there something wrong with the way I burned it, or the type of cd? Anyone have this problem?

No idea, I burned a MP3 CD with about 180 songs on it and have had no problems. Used just a normal data disc.

I have tried CD-R and CDRW formats with no problems. I have used many different programs along the way to burn CD to mp3 format and I have not had a problem with anything I have tried to play as of yet. Have you tried using a different disc? Maybe the one you are using is corrupt.

I'm not sure if I've understood your question but if you're talking about the random mode, then pressing the 'next' button will move to the next linear track/song rather than another random track/song. This is with both a normal CD and an MP3 CD.

I'm just going to try another cd. I meant that when I use the i-drive knob to scroll to a different song, it skips and wont play. I think the cd is just corrupt. I think the mp3 cd's are much better than using an ipod.

for me....some (MP3) songs will skip once in a while, I'm guess is the disk or the file itself

the cd player on my 2008 328 also skips when playing mp3 or wav files. The same disk plays flawlessly on my friend 325. BMW will not fix the problem - they say they do not support burnt cd.

MP3 skips

I have the same problem with my 06 325i with idrive. I burnt a mp3 on a cdrw and it skips sometimes so I tried mp3's on a cdr and it skips also. The dealer says nothing is wrong. Does anybody know if there is a fix for this problem. Maybe a firmware update. I used maxell cds and verbatim and I know they are high quality. It's funny but I have a Toyota Yaris that with a factory stereo that will play just about anything.

Most of the problems I've seen with OEM CD players reading MP3 discs has to do with the burn speed. Modern PCs can burn at up to 52X but the audio players can have a tough time reading it. Try burning the disc again at the slowest speed you can (mine only goes down to 16X) but the slower the better. If that doesn't work, the media might be the issue--again, audio players are far more finicky than computer drives. You may have to try a different brand. But 99% of the time, just slowing the burn speed down solves the problem.

Found a solution to skipping problem...kinda

I read that the older idrive systems with the dvd navigation can play mp3's on a dvd in the dvd (navigation) drive, so I ejected my navigation dvd and inserted a mp3 cd and it played flawlessly. No skipping at all. So I guess if you're not using the navigation you can play mp3s without any errors on the dvd drive. I didn't try burning mp3's on a dvd yet but will try it soon. I don't know if the dvd drive is just better or maybe the idrive system can't read data from the dvd drive and the cd drive simultaneously without a few hiccups. Testing is ongoing. lol

Make sure you burned it as a Data CD, rather than an audio disc.

1. burn as data cd (thats just obvious)
2. burn at a slow speed

So far every MP3 cd i burnt has worked flawlessly for me.

I've never been able to get MP3s to work no matter what combinations I've tried. The dealer told me that the iDrive unit in my model (mfg 08-2005) is incompatible.
