How many of you are still on summer tires?

How many of you refused to change to winter tires and only take the car out during the "dry" days?

Summer compound is useless in low temps, regardless of whether it's "dry" out there.

My E93 semi hibernates in the winter but I still have it fitted with dedicated winter wheel and tires so I won't be afraid to take it out when I want to.

My E60 is a year round runner so it was the first to get winters every year.

A buddy was following me in his RSX typeS with his summers coming off the 401 at Bayview the other night. As the off ramp curved to the right, there was a snow/ice patch that had formed. I noticed it, and braked ahead of it. I then looked in my rear view, only too see him losing complete control at about 100km/h. His car swerved back and forth several times, then hit the snow bank and spun almost a 360. Lucky there were no cars behind him for a bit. It was only after he told me he was on summers. I told him he was crazy, and lucky he's still in one piece. Thought I would share.

I'm on winters (Bridgestone Blizzak's) and wouldn't have it any other way.

Grip is certainly poor when road (not air) temperatures are low, but you can still have some fun on "dry" roads.

My DSC was "flashing" multiple times when I came out of the ramp on Christmas morning. I think the asphalt will have a higher road temperature during a regular day.

I put Dunlop M3 Winters on mine stock 16" 156 style rims and have 18" M5 replica wrapped with Falken FK452 for summer.

It's just completely crazy for ppl to drive on their summers or all seasons during winter.

one caveat to your post. I hope anyone on summers is not driving near me, as I don't want them slamming into my car

I'm still rolling on summers, but then again, I moved to Charlotte NC in September. Today was 18 degress (celcius) and sunny.

I did, however, have winters when I was in Halifax but sold them.

Was on my all season 18s for the first heavy snow this year... I was getting some minor slippage even with xi... although they are better than the stock 16 RFTs, I ended up getting snows this year.

Ah, no. The roads will be colder than the air on a warm day. Especially in the winter.

Simple heat capacity. The roads are tied to the earth and that is one big friggin heatsink.

The roads will remain colder than the air well into the spring. This is why they talk about the frost coming out of the ground well after it is warm outside. It takes way longer.

In T.O. you are going to need weeks of warm temps to heat the road. Every night it is cold too, that doesn't help either.
