Whats needed for RB Turbos?
Hello, Everyone
I was hoping i can get some feedback on upgrading to RB turbo's. If my car only has an intake and chargepipe with BOV, is it ok to have RB turbos? Would i need to get other supporting mods to make it work? My thoughts were if i put in RB turbo's...i can drive it like OEM and push it whenever i want.... But not have any wierd noises or wear and tear to the engine... Any suggestions or experience on this? Thank you, |

You have a lot of researching to do my friend, search around.
There's no particular reason to go with any type of turbo upgrade if you are retaining the catted downpipes. EGT and backpressure will almost inevitably rise to unacceptable levels, you need to evacuate exhaust efficiently with how small and hot the stock frames are. And without a better intercooler, you'll be so heatsoaked any potential power gains will be short lived.

why get RBs if you arent even FBO(charge pipe, intercooler, downpipes)? Im guessing you dont have a tune either? like @135pats said spend some hours going through the millions of post on this subject all the info is out there. If you plan on doing nothing else to the car why are you looking to upgrade to RBs? you wouldnt even get to use the power they make with out the supporting mods. If you plan on keeping your car as is look for vargas oem replacment turbos if yours are on the way out. Good luck

You're putting the cart wayyyyyyyyyyyyy before the horse. The n54 motor isn't like some other engines out there where you can just put on a bigger turbo and go vroom vroom.
In short, if you put a set of RB turbos on the car you will see no difference in power than what you're seeing now. Next to zero power gain... |

Honestly you can run the Rb's with the mods you have. Unfortunately without other bolt ons such as catless dps, an upgraded innercooler, a good tune and e85 or methanol you will not see the full potential of the bigger turbos. Sure it will be faster than the stocks, but the drastic improvement comes when you can safely increase your boost pressures.
