Anybody here thrown a false 2EF4 (thermostat code)?
From service records, the dealer replaced my "main electrical coolant pump" (water pump?) at 51k but I don't see any note about thermostat.
Yesterday my car threw a CEL but no code thru idrive. Pulled it via my JB4 and got 2EF4, failed thermostat. Does this mean it's time to pull the water pump off again? You think they really just threw a new pump on there with the old thermostat? Times like this, I really wish I had a coolant gauge to keep an eye on... ugh |

Do you have a tune? You can log engine water temp. Funny you mention this I got a 2EF7 yesterday by itself a few times yesterday when WOT at around 120. related to the thermostat, but code doesn't deem it a failure.. have yet to search around, but I'd start with checking your coolant resevoir and see if its lower than normal.. and cehck for any leaks under your car. The pumps on these things are electrical and can go whenever they damn please its annoying and I think the coolant leaks generally seep into the electrical components causing them to short :/

Yep. Been there since the day I bought it. Along with a code for a short circuit in the active grille shutters that I don't have.
I know my thermostat is working, and from my understanding, if they fail, they stick open. But just to play it safe I have a brand new Stat along with 3 extra coils in my emergency kit. |

Any way to clear the codes and see if it shows back up, with only a JB4? |

Of course. You can select menu 1 option 2 and it will delete the code. Thats what I did yesterday or I wouldn't have been able to replicate the issue at 120 lol.

Yeah, I'm still not sure how much I trust our MILs. Mine didn't even come on after I miffed up my ESS changing the valve cover gasket. Drove it for over 40 miles, never once lit up, just had a hard time staying running on a cold start.

thanks, cleared the code before heading home for lunch, hasn't come back yet but to be fair I won't start the car from dead cold until tomorrow morning. Will update if it comes back, here's hoping we don't hear from me again
