It could be a wheel speed sensor, or a ABS pump/module problem, only way to find out is with a scan with BMW specific tools, the pump is expensive and requires programming unless you transfer over the module from the existing pump, even then it needs to be installed with BMW specific tools to run the bleed procedure to purge it from air or you will never get a firm pedal.

It could also be the abs pump module, there are services out there that fix them so no programming is needed.

Good luck and hope for the first.

20-30 bucks in parts plus a very quick install one bolt in and out for the wheel speed sensor, it could also be your steering angle sensor they sell a repair kit thats hard to find the part number that replaces the optical disk which usually oxidizes to avoid a new SAS plus programming $$$, but thats not very common, a bad wheel speed sensor is the most common, the code will tell you which sensor there is one in every wheel hub.

Weak battery can cause all kinds of issues, if water submerged the hub it could def screwed the sensor, best thing to do is pull the codes.
