Car vibrates when braking-bmw diagnostic fee

I am new here but got my 2008 328i two years ago. Car had aftermarket brakes so got the front rotors and pads replaced last year, and rears replaced six months ago from a dealer.

A month after replacing the rears, my car started vibrating when I brake from 70/80 or above. I think its the rears since there is no shaking in the steering. Car vibrates and there is vibration felt in the seats.

So I called couple of gta bmw dealers (since I've moved) to see if the brakes are covered under some sort of warranty. One dealer said $180 diagnostic fee to check while the other said $160.

What do you guys suggest I do? Go and see? If not covered, its the diag. fee for nothing. If covered, then brakes are all replaced as long as brake pads are not bad I guess!? Just dont want to waste money..

If your car vibrates while driving and its coming from the seats, i would re-balance your wheels first before paying diag fee. If the issue is not resolved, go from there.

As I said in the post its only from the braking.

sounds like warped rotors if it's only shaking during braking
just take off the wheel and check if you can visibly see if the rotors are warped

might be worth asking the dealer if the diag. fee is waived if it indeed is the brakes they put on

I was told if they find that its the brakes they wont charge the diag. fee. But if its something else then they will charge it.

just take it to an indy, put it on a lift and check out the brakes, if it's the brakes then take it to the dealer and have em replace, if not it'll be cheaper to fix at indy anyway

probably cost you half hour labour at an indy

Warped rotors are pretty much a myth... Read up on it on Stoptech's website. Maybe uneven pad deposits, which doing a bed-in procedure should fix.

In my case, my shaking was felt in my steering wheel, and it turned out it was my front control arm upper bushings that were gone (after only 60k), and so it was a good reason to go full M3 control arm upgrade.

Shaking all gone now!

^^^ +1 @lotus99 arms/struts - they'll cause the shakes when braking

im almost at 100k and will be replacing them next oil change.

you dont need to go to the dealer. car is out of warranty, just find a reputable indy and save your $$.

I had the same thing when my front tension strut bushing was shot. Its a pretty common issue on high mileage E90s. I would bet that your brakes are fine and your tension strut is shot.

Take it to the best alignment shop.
They will get under it and tell you everything.

I have the same issue with 75km, when full brakes on during traffic light stop, engine has slight vibration like never before and sometimes causes rattling in the engine. I search through the web and it could come down to the following: engine mounts , brakes , or rotors as lot of people are not sure. I guess I will live with it until next checkup , don't think it is something serious unless I am wrong lol

I have experienced the same thing when I leave the car parked for a couple of weeks in warm humid (read Florida) conditions. I put it down to uneven rust on the rotors. A couple of applications of heavy braking usually smoothes things out.
